A few questions:

- What are the barrel contour differences between these two? Is the CTR a slimmer contour? If so, how much and does it have a negative impact on accuracy? (my Varmint is a hammer with the right load)
- Has anyone shot the new 24" CTR? Does accuracy hold up on long shot strings (10 shots or so) at the range, or do you need to let it cool off before then?

The varmint is heavier than the ctr. Personally I like the ctr contour better and no nothing about a 24". I would not want a 24"

I own a CTR 6.5CM. Accuracy is great. If you are shooting a timed competition it might string on you but I don't and have only shot at our 1000 yard range at the ranch.

I believe the CTR is also threaded. Or at least they offer a threaded model.

What are you using the rifle for?

Target shooting at the range exclusively.

I do believe the CTR is threaded.

The CTR does have a ligher barrel than the Varmint. CTR muzzle diameter is approx. .790"

You can check your varmint but I'd guess it's more like .830-.850"

The CTR is designed to be a light tactical/hunting rifle. I shoot 5 shots groups with mine no problems. 10 shots would be getting it hot, but I'm sure guys are doing that in PRS style shooting. Check with the boys over on Snipershide, the CTR is getting lots of play with that crowd.

Is there a valid reason it doesn't get as much attention over here? Or does it and I'm just missing it?

My varmint barrel came in at about .86".

Had a Tikka Super Varmint 26" .308 and then picked up a CTR 20" .308. Not only is the CTR infinitely more handy as hunting rifle, it shoots with greater precision.

I think the CTRs get a little attention here, I know a few here have posted about them. Tikkas in general get lots of attention on THF, but the guys who post most about them here are building semi customs with the T3 actions.

All I meant is there will be more feedback on Snipershide from guys that have run CTRs either in factory form or with stock/chassis upgrades. There's a whole thread on Tikkas in the bolt action section. The proprietor of SH also did a video review with a factory .260 CTR.
