Excited to share pics of the two Axis bucks I dropped this past Saturday and Sunday while hunting my son's property just outside of Kerrville

Top photo is the buck I shot Sunday (27" with a 19" spread). Bottom photo is the buck I shot Saturday (33" with a 26" spread).

Very well done; beautiful bucks. I hope your son was there to help you clean them in this heat.

That bottom one looks huge.

Is it me or are they the hardest animal to skin?

I wish he would have helped, but no such luck. Other than helping me hoist it up to hang, he pretty much just stood by and watched me sweat it out

Thank you!! I've been saying that too! Definitely harder to skin Axis versus Whitetail. Between gutting, skinning, then butchering...my left elbow is spent! I saw a video once of a guy making a few cuts, then tucking a rock into the skin and tied a rope to it with the other end of the rope tied to his trailer hitch on his truck...then just tapped the gas and the skin peeled right off. I swear I wish I would have seen that and tried it out this weekend

I tried a new recipe out just yesterday. Basically marinate the tenderloins in milk for 30 minutes, season with Montreal Steak and minced garlic, then cook in a skillet. Wrap in bacon and bake for another 20 minutes. Let sit for 5 minutes and eat. To be honest I wasn't really all that impressed. It was good, but I still prefer to marinate in Moore's original marinade overnight then grill on the BBQ. I have enough meat in the freezer now to try a bunch of different recipes and marinades so I am open to suggestions!

Talked to a taxidermist here in Fort Worth who pays $100/each for axis hides. Don't know if everyone knows about that but this was news to me. Good to know
