21st century is the only way to go if your going to turn necks. I would also get the Wilson inside neck reamer, that's what I do for all my precision hand loads. Make sure you follow the directions for the 21st century and pay attention to the Wilson fired case holder and new case holder, you'll want to get the fired case holder for inside neck reaming.

21st century if you go with the lathe as spg mentioned. Otherwise the rest of them are about the same. I use K&M because that is what I was taught on and seemed to work well so I went that route. Truth is there isn't that much difference between any of them.

Now you are almost making it a mission for me to get you to turn some necks. grin

I will say for guys who throw their brass in the sand it might not be the way to go...but for ultimate neck tension control, it makes a HUGE difference. I'm talking Lapua brass not Winchester crap wink

I use the Forster hand unit. They are all about the same except for pilots. I have never seen a need to use the drill doing it by hand gives a much better "feel".

One shot is all it should take.

When in your reloading sequence are y'all turning necks? Before sizing, after sizing?

Is it "sizing" or "resizing?" And why have I never seen fried beans on the menu, but refried beans are so prevalent?

I normally FL size with bushings...

So for new unfired brass, would I?
1) FL size
2) trim
3) expand with expander die
4) turn neck
5) FL size with correct bushing

I don't use bushing dies, but I'd size the cases as if I was about to prime, charge, and seat and then turn the necks---provided that the pilot will still fit. I think the main considerations would be that the neck is perfectly round and that it fits the pilot closely. I don't see where anything else matters.

Yes, the expander has to be used or you'll never get the case on the pilot. Careful not to let the pilot get too hot.

Seriously, though...I'm wondering how a pilot gets too hot. Turning case necks, I mean.

rofl No arguing, that's a HOT pilot rofl

If you use a drill to spin the case the pilot will get hot and could even expand it.
