I have a compound bow, but I wanted to buy a Crossbow and I need a little advice. Because it's my first crossbow, I'm looking for a good entry level bow. Not sure which brands to look at, I see that Barnet has one that is on sale marked down from $499 to my price range of under $300 with a FPS of 330, but PSE has one about the same FPS, for $299, and then Center Point has one $299 with 370FPS... Just need help sorting out which would be a quality boy for under $300. Can anyone help

The Center Point of those 3 would be my choice, it can often be found for $250 when on sale. Check the online reviews of the 3 listed and pretty sure the CP will also have the better reviews.

All 3 of those have 5 year warranties.

I have a Barnett Ghost 360 crossbow and I really like it. It is quite for an Xbow. It is a little out of your price range, but you can maybe find a used one cheap.

Just picked up a CP - shoots fast & accurate. I think you'll like it!

When you put the CP together follow the directions, I like to use Something slick on the cable slide usually use some white lithium grease on it before installation or can be added after assembly with a toothpick or Q-tip. Instructions are not great for the plastic piece between stock and riser, be sure to use the plastic/rubber stick on piece. On the cable slide the deeper grove in it goes on the top cable as it is placed there from looking down on the riser assembly from above the way it will fit on the bow. THe cables will cross on the left side of the bow when viewed from above

Crossbows have come a long way from just a few years ago. Don't know how they are now since I've had mine, a Horton Dakota for over 25 years now, but stay away from any crossbow with a plastic safety. That is what I've seen fail, but again that's been several years back.
Another thing that isn't expressed enough about crossbows is they can be dangerous if you are not careful and don't pay attention to those limbs sticking out on each side when it comes time to shoot. Also be aware that there is enough clearance when those limbs spring forward when you are focused on your killing shot, and keep your fingers below and clear of the rail when you fire the bow.
Another thing to check is the shafts of your arrows (bolts) for cracks, and it looks nice and impressive when you have six arrows in a nice tight group where you can grab them with one hand and pull them out of the target, but one arrow striking another can and will crack a shaft, and the results of firing a cracked shaft can send you to the ER. I know, because it happened to me back in 1970
Also make sure you have a firm grip on the string when you [censored] the bow, or use a device to pull the string back. Any slip up here can cause a dry fire which could and probably will damage the bow, cables, and string.
Check the limbs before shooting, for cracks, and also check the string for fraying and cables to make sure everything is the way it supposed to be.
Get into the habit of checking all the above and I guess what it comes down to is just respect the crossbow just like you would a rifle or handgun.

I'm selling my barnet DOA. I have taken some deer with it. Pretty nice bow for barnet. I just bought an excalibur matrix 380 and love it. If I were you I would save money and get a bow that will last a very very long time. The more I have aged I have found that dependability is key. Spend the few extra bucks now and you will have a bow for years to come just like Jimbo has stated he has had his for 25 years!
