Nice touch.  Nice touch. Did the land owner know it was there? Actually my step-daughter, is the Ranch Manager's daughter, and she said her dad had shown it to her before.

Great find. Nice job with the colors and clean up. What county? We are in Throckmorton close to the Brazos. The grave site is no more than 150-200 yards to the river. Back 126 years ago the river could've been a lot closer.

Wow. I bet you could go to the TA office at court house and pull up the land deed plat to property, Probably originally in there name if the records still exist. Around this time Lot of free grants of 160 acres if you stay 5 years and made improvements. Then you could buy another 160 for a very small fee. All to get the area settled.
Lot of frontier woman died because of wood stoves and long dress catching on fire among many thing that killed them. Along with Indians in the area. Look around and you will probably find signs of the home.

This is my favorite part of the country in all I have seen. I love the history in Throckmorton county. I used to hunt the Lambshead and met Watt Matthews and had a few conversations with him before he passed. In one of our conversations he said in all his years he never killed a rattlesnake. He said when you get close they let you know they are scared by shaking their tail.

John Moore Married Lucy J Turner on 2nd January 1881
so she was 17 when she married John?

It took some rugged folks to venture west. Once you got west of Ft. Worth you were in Indian country. Had to be a lonely life on the Texas plains. Great job on the respectful cleanup. You're a good man.

you got close to it??? Hope her ghost isn't waiting in your stand opening morning???  I went back that evening and cleaned up the site and added some color. Maybe now she won't haunt me.  That was a very nice thing to do! Is there a place/data base that the information and GPS could be sent to. Someone may be searching their family history.
