My 6-month old pup went to Tony Miller about a month ago for training.

The wife and I drove over early this morning to see how he was doing and I was impressed. Obedience is looking pretty good and we got to see him make a couple of nice points and one bird shot over him. He still creeps on the birds, and chases when they flush, but its just the first month of training. We even saw saw a pretty decent natural retrieve.

I'm getting pumped up about getting my pup into the field this fall. Lets hope the birds cooperate.

And the world stood still.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

Nothing like that.

Makes a dog man so proud.

I'm excited. This is the first bird dog I have gotten as a pup...my previous dog, and the ones my dad had when I was growing up, were all acquired well past a year old, and had already been hunted at least one season. It's been exciting to work with Rye and watch him grow. My work requires a lot of travel during the week, so sending him to a trainer assured he would get worked with daily and have lots of birds to learn on.

Here he is about a month ago, out for a run at LBJ. He ran wide open for about 45 minutes and pretty much kept up with his new buddy Chip, a big running Field Trial GSP. (They are headed back to the truck in this picture. )

No...we heard calling in the distance. We worked that way, but never found them.

Picked up Rye after two months at the trainer for "Puppy school"...obedience, conditioning, and a little bird work.
The little guy has grown, but WOW, he has really gotten stronger!

He is quartering nicely for a pup. Turns on his name, and "Here" is rock solid, even with distractions. He even heels now, and went to snake training. I cannot wait for the rain to stop so I can take him out to the grasslands and let him some serious running.

We'll be ready for season banana

I picked my Brittany up finally. Whoa is good, he's steady on birds and recalls to whistle but I wouldn't call any of it solid. I'm working on heel at the moment. Let me know if you want some company at the Grasslands.
