I need to build a feeder pen this weekend. I want to do it right, but not waste money overbuilding it. I want to keep cows out, but I don't mind letting hogs in. I planned to buy 6 16' pieces of cattle panel (cut in half for transport) and put a t post between each panel and wire the panels to them.

Will t posts driven into the ground be sufficient to keep cows out? Or do I really need wooden posts cemented in the ground?

T post has always worked for me. Just wire up the panels good and tight.

T posts have always worked well for me. I first built my pen with 6 panels but then went back and increased it to 10 panels. The deer seem more at ease with the extra space.

I used 2in hose clamps to secure my panels to the t post. Been up for several years with no isuues. Take a cordless drill and make short work of it

Go bigger at least 8 16' panels (cut if half if you wish) and overlap them at least one square section at each post end. I wire them to the T posts and leave one panel on one end unwired and use 2-3 carabiners on that unwired end to snap onto the over-extended panel from the next T post to use this panel as my drive-in gate.

What are you going to carry them in? I used twelve on my last pen and I believe it's the perfect size! I also never needed to cut them in half and I carried them from Dallas to San Angelo. You want to make sure there's enough room for multiple deer in the pen. In my new pen I've had as many as ten deer in it at one time. My smaller one last year had 3 does and two fawns at one time and that was the most.

How did you transport 16ft panels in a truck?

If your just wanting to keep the cows out, why not just make it out barb wire probably be lot cheaper?

Curl them over into a "U" and use ratchet straps to secure them. It is easier with a trailer but it will work with a truck.

I did all my pens 50x50 with a 16 foot gate in mine. Three strands and never had a cow get in them.

Shhhhhhhh better to be quiet than remove all doubt..

Be a lot easier to make it out of cattle panels. And it's a lot easier to move if I need to. But I did think about going that route.

Size matters. I use 10.

Aaron I've built many a feeder pen. Build it 10' wider and longer than your feeder will throw. Put a T post every 10' and a fence stay between each post. String 3 strands of barbwire and kill'em all. I usually make a gate in mine too. Add a kill light to a tpost and own the night.

I transported 14 hog panels on the roof and tailgate of my mid size Nissan truck. Put a blanket on the roof, tailgate down with my tailgate extender. Secured it with rope through the open windows and tied down on top of my tailgate extender up

As mentioned above use as many panels as possible, I used 10 hog panels in a circle around my feeder, wished I would have used all 14.

I suggest not letting the hogs in during deer season, they will run the deer off unless you have a big food plot there also.
What I used to do up until last year was, after deer season take 4 hog panels off that faced my blind to attract the porkers, they have torn my food plot field up so bad that I do not invite them in anymore yet they still show up nuts

Good luck.

Wire on feed pens is a prescription for a hung up (dead) deer.
