Making one out of a 55 gallon and a game winner feeder tube. Trying to Build a few on the cheap. Do I need a funnel? They are about 20 each. Not a huge expense but I'm building 5 soooooo...... any experience?

I had hogs break the welds on the tabs that bolt to the bottom of the barrel on mine. Weld repairable - but weak as designed.

Use this, I wish I would have found this before I built my protein feeder.

I built a large crank up feeder also and used it on that. A barrel with no holes in it has fewer places to leak water IN.

Built a few, yes you need a funnel. With that said the bottom need to fit through whatever size hole you cut in your barrel.

I know it has been mentioned, but make sure you cut the hole at the bottom of the funnel out bigger than how it comes. I would recommend same size as the tube. The funnels are all perfect for corn, but the protein will clog if you leave the hole the size it comes in.

If ducks had horns I'd probably be a duck hunter.
I am a horrible deer hunter. Probably the worst. Ever.

He's right, I've got a large hole saw I bought to make mine you can use...

Thanks for the offer! I used a jig saw and a metal blade. I got two set up over the weekend. I'm going to see how they work before I build more.

Thanks everyone for the help!

All Seasons makes a protein funnel with a larger diameter hole.

The funnels from Academy are perfect, just cut at the top of the downspout (leave a short lip) to widen it for protein.
