If i plant .15acre with chicory how long will it last? is it too small to be a viable hunting plot?

I doubt if many of the math geniuses on here know how big that is ----- you'd be better off describing it as 100X90, or whatever it is.

If it brings in and keeps deer in area for hunting season, it's viable.
A lot depends on rain also. If it rains, it will grown and come back somewhat. If it doesn't rain, it will go away quickly as they eat out the entire area.

deer density in the area is a big factor as well....might be large enough for some areas, may not last long in others.

I wouldn't really call that a "food plot" as much as a hot spot. That's pretty small, so if you have any density of deer, they'll mow it down faster than it can grow to maturity.

26 yards x 26 yards is not enough area to grow an effective food plot.

Whats the minimum size you guys usually stick with? Just depends on what you're trying to accomplish. You have to do the math on the total yield per acre per type of crop grown and figure out how many deer you have hitting the spot to really determine if it's going to help you as supplemental feed. Regardless, you can use it to hunt over (lots of people put in small food plots for short-term hunting), but if it's something the deer aren't accustomed to, it may take them a season or 2 to figure it out.

I threw an Academy bag of mixed greens in my back yard once (maybe 5 X 5 feet) and had A deer come to it for 2 years.
Little ole spike hit it regularly around midnight for the longest. He's eat for about 5 minutes at a time

As big as you can. On average a whitetail consumes 7 pounds of browse daily, or 49 pounds per week. A small group of deer can wipe out a one acre food plot before it gets established if they find it shortly after germination. If you have limited open land to cultivate your money will be better spent on a high value supplemental feeding program.

one ranch I was helping develop, I put in about 5-7 acres with assorted seeds as a food plot every year, rotated thru a 25 acre field every 7 years ... but on other places, I put in several smaller plots based on the size of available tillable soil I have. My little ranch outside of Bertram, I have 3-4 smaller plots (approximately 30x120, 50x120, 30x100, 80x200 feet) equaling up to about .7 acres ... it draws in game until the hogs root it up.

I am only bow hunting out here, so i was trying to keep it small to keep the deer in a closer area to me. You'd be better off just using a corn feeder, even hand corning would do. If you have a way to temporarily high fence a small plot off so it will grow knee deep or so then take the fencing down before season starts it might last a few weeks. I usually do a minimum of 5 acres per 100 acres, more is better. Of course deer density makes a huge difference, in Blanco county I could plant 160 acres and they'd keep it mowed down to the dirt, never see more than 1/4" green fuzz.

Just a few deer would wipe that size area out pretty quick I'm thinking. I'm having to expand my plots this year because mine weren't big enough last season. Mine were a little over an acre last season.

if you have hogs in your area, they will demolish small plots overnight.

anything will help for a while ... if you use a mixed variety of seeds, you might have different growth rates and times coming up providing a longer period of time. The local feed store near me mixes up a 9 seed blend that works well in my area.
