There are so many really good "mid Priced" .1911's out there. All are good

Remington
Springfield
Ruger
SIG
Colt

Not crazy about the RIA and Taurus but that's just me, their finishes are not really good.

What stores do you have in/near Athens? Besides Academy? Try to go and look at each, check the fit and finish, is the trigger creepy/gritty or just go "click". Look at as many as you can, see what you like, look in your wallet and decide.

I have the R1 Enhanced and find it to be a pretty nice piece. I did have the trigger worked and a little polishing done and it made it a totally new gun. I really like it. I also have the Ruger that I almost passed on because the trigger was terribly sloppy but they started discounting it. I had a new Wilson trigger installed and a little other work and now I would not part with. I have all the others except the Sig and have done much the same to them also. Now they perform as they should and even better. One you didn't mention is the Desert Eagle 45ACP. After doing the same as others it is my favorite handgun, smooth and accurate.

I think it a good gun for the money. As Bass cited, a little trigger work can make any gun better. Love the commander size

this goes with about any factory mid priced 1911. trigger is so important to good shooting

ask the stores if they recommend a 1911 smith. I remember an indoor shooting range near 69 and the loop
