I'm looking for a day lease to get my 7 year old daughter into hunting. I have a lease here in east texas, but as we all know east texas can be slow. I'm not looking to shoot anything big, would be perfectly happy with a doe or 2. I just want her to see deer and be involved/excited about the hunt. I have found several day leases, just wanting feedback/referrals if any of you have used one in the past.

Get her enrolled with the Texas Youth Hunting Program. http://www.tyhp.org/

Will be the best $100 (or whatever the current charge is) for a weekend hunt you'll spend.

I think they have to be 9 yrs. old to get into the TYHP.

If she doesn't meet the age requirement yet I would take her on a doe or hog hunt with one of the ranches in the outfitter section. Find a place that has good management and facilities that need to thin down their does and hogs.

She will be safer and see more animals then your typical day lease. The cost will be very affordable. I started my daughter hunting about this age. Hogs and turkey are what she killed first. I waited for her to ask me to kill a buck before we went after them. She killed her first buck at 16. She killed many hogs before taking her buck.

Have you taken your daughter hunting with you and shot a deer while she was there? If not you might want to try that first to see if she is good with it.

Very important to take your daughter target practicing a lot with the gun she will be shooting so she will get comfortable with it and hopefully not wound an animal and have that remorse.

Good luck on your daughters hunting adventures, and kudos to you for encouraging her to enjoy the great outdoors up

Contact Don K on this forum. He usually sells a few hunts to get rid of deer at his goat operation. Class act.

She has been duck hunting with me several times and been around when I skinned out deer. Last year she even helped me skin a deer and asked me to put some blood on her face, she was by my side the entire time. I've started her plinking around with a .22, she isn't ready to shoot at an animal yet but is very familiar with gunfire. Here are some pics of her with me. just because.

I started my daughter at 9. We practiced many hours, and many rounds of ammo with the gun she would use. We started on Hogs with a .223. For me, the target (hogs) and bullet placement were key for her 1st few live animal rifle shots. We focussed on putting the shot in the hogs ear, and slowly squeezing the trigger. If we hit, the hog falls. If we miss, it runs off and we talk about what happened and wait for the next target (hog). My daughter is 22 now, uses a 25-06, and has many white-tails and axis under her belt, and countless hogs.

I have several kid videos on my YouTube channel.

Here is my daughters 1st hog kill video (excuse the quality... it was a long time ago):

And here is her 2016 Buck... All great memories. Hoping to make many more....

JKib, it never ends, my daughter and I started about the same time. At my lease I was able to take her and she would basically put her tags on the deer but it went against my bag limit. It was near Comfort (Kerrville). Tons of game, never a boring moment. We lost this lease back to the family this year DAMMMMMMM.

SO, this year I'm taking her to Sonora and hunting with Mulie Mike here in the THF. Its more than I really can afford but I can't see a year without "OUR" hunt together. Such great memories we will both have forever.

Do your best to make it happen every year, she will be a great young lady !!!!! And her Daddy will be on a Pedestal
