We hunt in N Texas, there are hundreds of acres of wheat fields. What are some good ways to pull the deer to your area away from the fields ?

Hope they're bedding on or crossing your place to get to & from the wheat fields, then set up a feeder on / near their travel paths.
Corn works as an attractant on even wheat / oat / alfalfa fed deer, like candy or dessert.

I am fortunate to have a nice sized wheat field on my lease. It is the main draw for almost all the deer I see. Once the wheat is up, I rarely have any deer go to my feeder compared to the field...its almost like 5 deer to the feeder to 50 deer to the field. Its silly how little they want that corn.

My guess is find the travel paths and hope they move early enough to shoot. You aren't going to get much attractant action that will replace the attractant that is real food. Every deer I shot this year that we opened the stomach, was full of wheat and virtually no corn.

Of course this maybe different in other areas, I hunt in Young County near graham.

walk perimator of your place, last lease had, no water, back track trials... we took garden tiller were two trails crossed, planted some oats, in that area, PVc corn feders... Son killed deer every year... Wheat field be cut some time, change deer movement, they are browsers, & like a variaty in diet... Cams can help & also dinnerbell, sound of corn being thrown from feeder... Again deer can pattern hunters, go nocturnal... never did have much luck with scent, rattling, did have one deer come to gunt, had big area over look, so was blowing little loader... Just before dark gave one last call, ended up a quiet call, heard rustling, it slowly came right under tree stand, but way to dark... have used Turkey call, deer are curous...

If you have wheat fields and they won't work your feeder, try hand or road corning.

Water

Sí...they'll need it before hitting the fields.


Cover doesn't hurt either. Among lots of fields that concentrates the heck out of them.

QSYB, I certainly agree about corning roads, etc. I also add rice bran. Mostly, I see does, young bucks and lots of hogs at feeders. It's been a game changer for us.

I hunt over a small 3 acre field which is planted in 1/3 oats, wheats, legumes. The field draws them in but they also hit my feeder, usually the does and small bucks work the feeder the hardest.

I would find the travel path between the field and water, put my feeder in that area.
If there is no water fairly close, then I would go back to finding the most traveled path into the field, set up a feeder in that area and put your blind as far away as you can comfortably shoot

If you hogs in your area (which almost everyone does) and you set up a feeder, be sure and put hog panels around the feeder, I have 10 panels in a circle around mine

During the rut use decoys, I found out on our lease if I set a pop up out, they move to the other side of the field. I lie in wait on the other side of the field.
