I have never missed with my .410 over/under, that may change when I take it out

I learned w a 410 when I was a kid. I was thinking about getting a citori ou 410. I still only shoot a 20.

Hunted doves in my single digit years, with a single shot .410 and dowel rod to punch the shells out. Learned to pick my shots and make them count. I may need to go back to a single shot...

They are effective, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot one if I was covered up in birds. Usually when I have to pay to hunt doves, I'll go with the Benelli 12ga till I get a limit, then I can "play" the other days.

I moved up from .22 ratshot to .410 a few years ago. Old age. Kinda unfair.

I cant afford .410 shells.

I have a Md 42 Winchester, I'm going to take out this year

Dad had one and loaned it out when I went into the Military. When I got back, said he forgot who he loaned it to and never got it back. When I moved up to the pump...I felt like I was high Class!

Avoid the 28 ga then!

As I've aged I've found that I like the "being there" part of the hunt as much as the bag limit.
The guys, the dogs, the start of season......It's more about that these days than filling a bag.

However, the video here will help if I can learn that guy's techniques.

What loads are ya'll shooting in your .410?
Also most the old 42.s are full choked. Those with modern .410, what choke do you mainly use?

I found a md 42 pre 64 in a Uncle Joe's pawn shop on Riverside dr in FTW back in 1983 for 120 dollars obviously, clueless to what they had. It was in like new condition. I believe last time I ck'd I think it was upwards to 1300 dollars now.. After reading this post I'm going to take it out opening day.. Great thread..

I have a minty Model 42 that I gave a lot more than that for about ten years ago. I have used it the last two dove openers rather than a twenty. Modified choke, I use #8.5, 2 1/2" Clays loads. I find that the short hard 8,5s pattern better and penetrate pine boards better than the softer #7 1/2 3" loads do, I came close enough to a limit both years to call opening day a success. I try to keep my shots within 20-25 yards and have more fun than one is supposed to have. I even occasionally get a double.

My Grandpa gave me a Springfield 67f pump .410 a long time ago. I try to use it as many dove hunts as I can.

I shoot winchester AA 2.5" #9 all the time. They are under $10/box. Shoot mine duck hunting all the time too.

I also shoot a lot of 3" winchester steel target 6's when we are shooting white wings.

I have a Remington 1100 in .410 that I use opening day. Just pick your shots. I usually go back to a 20 gauge after that just because its less expensive to shoot.

It is a lot of fun shooting dove with a .410. I shoot Winchester AA 8.5's. I use a full choke and a Improved Modified in my over and under.

I have 3 410's for dove a Model 42 that shoots 3" #9's out of a modified. A White Lightening that eats 3" 7.5's and a new Synergy that I have not patterned yet, so who knows. Probably stuff it with 8's and go to town. I use IC/Mod on the O/U shotguns, and always shoot over a mojo set at 18 yards.

I bet that guy doesn't always drink beer but when he does.......he prefers dos xx
