I have lots of Quail running around and I need to do a little pasture mowing, not much just some roads mostly. When is it safe to mow, I don't want to destroy any nests. I'm in the Breckenridge area.

Later......much later. Late August if possible. Still a lot of baby birds on the ground at the moment.

Second that. With the cool, wet weather we have been having in the Rolling Plains it is highly likely these birds are or are about to sit on nests. Figure from nest initiation till hatching 52-53 days on average. Now if it quits raining and gets really hot through the rest of July and August, they are likely to shut it down. It's been great weather for growing antlers as well.

Bar ditches near the road are a favorite nesting area of Quail as well. We had the county hold off on mowing bar ditches in the Knox County area to preserve how many Quail nest are in them. The ranch I work with is a Blue/Scaled Quail research ranch.
