I am thinking about buying some land for hunting. My budget is around 80k. I am considering the Concho County area. Does anybody own property there or anywhere else that can offer some advice? Ideally within a couple hours of Austin.

it might help if you said what you wanted to hunt ----- for that price you are looking at around 30 acres,, not really enough to deer hunt on.

Mostly deer. Possibly Axis. Me and another guy hunted for years on 25 acres.

Edwards county a little farther than you want, but I think you can get more for your money there!

I live in Menard and know the surrounding area pretty well. I feel that Concho County is a pretty good buy for hunting as you have the usual deer, turkey, occasional exotic but the bonus that most of the county offers is quail. Unfortunately, 80K will not buy enough real estate as the smaller tracts are going to sell for approximately $2,000/acre and up. I do sell a few ranches and know most everyone in the area. Adios, Gary

Game density dictates what's enough,, terrain can help with hunting smaller properties safely as can shape of property. You have to consider bullet travel & game retrieval.
In a severely over populated area (deer population) in the hill country with the right terrain & shape 5 - 10 acres is plenty to kill all the deer you have tags for, in another area of the same county or another county just 5-10 miles down the road you might need 200 acres per hunter, go W - NW / panhandle more like a section per. For 80k you can get 7 - 10 acres in a hill country county in an area with a severe over population problem, kill all the big dog size deer you, your family & everyone you know can haul outa there. I let some guys from Austin hunt our place last year, they killed 38 before 10am opening morning, could've killed quadruple that the first day if they had the tags or more folks. All from a 2 acre opening, no blinds or feeders, sitting in chairs under 30x50 shed 2 sides open, music on the radio going. Showed up 30 minutes before day light, dumped 25lbs corn in a line, fish in a barrel, skinned, gutted, cut up, in coolers gone by 11:30 am.
Look for a square property with a low area running through it.

Also a main factor is --- what is next to you ------- if you are next to a 1000 acre ranch, you are killing their deer ------ if you are next to 7, -- 100 acre ranches and they all hunt you might kill one if you are lucky------- if the neighbors all have 30 acres ---------
