I own 3 custom knives, The Jimmy Lile pictured in a thread below, an early Jerry Moen and an old Hundley.

I use none of them, keep them oiled and put in the safe.

I use the Outdoor Edge Pro, replaceable blades, Cheap, sharp as a razor. Will dress and skin several deer per blade. Used to use the Havalon Piranta (below) but blades are too thin.

Just wondering if anyone uses a $700 knife hard , in the field.

I use Havalons more often than not.
But I will use whatever is laying around the cleaning station and is handy. It doesn't take a fancy high dollar knife to gut and skin a deer.
But I do have a few custom knives that I have pulled out on occasion ($500 range), they are nice, and they do not get left at the cleaning station.

I just ordered a $500 + hand made knife from my co-worker and friend Luke Swenson - Swenson Knives (mainly slip joints)... I havent decided if I will use it... probably will as he is a good friend and I dont intend to sell it so why not put it through the paces... Ill hand it down to one of my kiddos. other than that most of my one of a kind type knives were no more than 130 and I use most of them to a degree.

I carry three knives every day....

1st is a small buck pocket knife I've had for almost 30 years....

2nd is a cheap locking folder with a window breaker and seatbelt cutter...my "junk" utility knife

3rd is this Tim "Chops" Lambkin knife....my EDC daily use/field knife....done lots of deer, pigs, and catfish with it.....his wife even made me a custom sheath for my bibs leg pocket.....

I "use" the cheapest full size folding knife I have. When it gets sufficiently worn, I use/carry the next cheapest I have. But I have many of all different types (~25+). Mostly tactical types, some diving types, push knives, etc. I carry the one that is the lightest, which usually means plastic handles. That way I'm not afraid to abuse it, strip wire with it, and so forth.

The only truly hand made knife I have, is one that was hand made in France that my wife gave me. I keep it on display in my living room.

I have these two by MikeC. I carry the small one pretty much everyday and use it pretty much daily. The bigger one I carry when hunting and its skinned several deer and pigs. If not carrying one of those, I have 3 different Benchmade griptillions that I carry.

I have about 25 customs and they all get used. They are tools. I grab whatever I feel like carrying on that day.

I NEVER go anywhere without one.

I can attest to that, every time I hang out with Marc he has a different knife with him and he definitely uses them.

If you need a utility knife, Gerber Bear Gryll, i have carried this for about 5 years, i have chipped grout, popped tiles, used it like a chisel with a hammer on wood, a screwdriver (flat and Phillips), used like a hatchet out in the woods. This thing is indestructible I'm telling ya, not even a knick in the blade! The steel is so hard but not brittle. Its hard to get an edge on it after you dull it but once you do the edge is just as hard to dull.

I have a custom by Jeff Baker and another by Mike Clerc. I am also on David Winston and Gene Ingram waiting lists. I will use all of them. However, none cost $700. I don't think I would order a knife and not use it. Nothing wrong with it, I just don't keep stuff laying around that I won't use. I do use a Havalon quite a bit as well. I typically have one of the fixed blades and a Havalon in my pack.

I've been carrying a little Esee Izula II around and really like it.

I also really like my Kershaw Leek.

I also have about a dozen other knives I carry from time to time.

I also may have a problem with buying too many knives.

I own quite a few knives but the knife I carry in my pack is this ceramic paring knife.

https://www.amazon.com/Farberware-Handle...ic+paring+knife

It is super light weight so I can carry a couple. It holds an edge better than any metal knife. I can skin a seasons worth of hogs without any sharpening at all. Best part is, at $9 a pop, when it does dull or break, I throw it away and I buy a new one.

For every day, I carry a Gerber Multiplier Diesel.
