I heard from a guy that he had a dog form Big Country Kennels, an English Setter, and he said it was an extremely hard dog. Does anyone know if this is the norm for them? I can't find any Setters on their site, only Shorthairs. I don't know if they got out of it or what.

The only thing hard about my setter is his head. Trying to teach him not to run out the front door has been a challenge. Not real soft but soft when it comes to a loud voice or thunder. He is a sweet heart of a mutt and a big runner which matches up great for my lease.

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

I have owned bird dogs of all kinds for almost 50 years. The setters I am running right now are as tough physically as well as mentally as any dogs I have ever owned. I think a lot of this goes back to longstanding winning bloodlines. I would stay close to Grouse Ridge, Hytest, and Crockett lines and throw in Shadow Oak Bo whenever you can. You will be just fine!
