No count down till dove season? With only 78 days to go.

My first season to hunt dove, and there's plenty around I'm watching the calender pretty close.

I know I'm getting old and cant remember names. But who was it that had the dove lease fields, and had a bunch of birds every year that used to post the count down. I apologize in advance for not remembering his name.

I'm watching the calendar too! September 1st is my favorite day of the year!!!

Keep watching those fields and then "poof" many times they disappear one day before the season opens- 3 years in a row in Graham

Very excited about both the dove and duck seasons this year. Been seeing some good numbers in the fields, wife just purchased a 20 gauge to tag along here and there, and a pup to be released from training some time soon. Should be good.

Just hope it aint like last year, was looking good before the season. Probably didn't get 100 birds the whole year with about 7 people hunting. Of course we had a bunch of rain in August last year. Still FUN, FUN, FUN!!!!!! And the count down is ON!!

SIL and I used to day hunt between Woodson and Throckmorton with lots of satisfaction. A few years ago, Daughter, a realtor, was approached about selling a small ranch/lodge near Seymour. She suggested to SIL that they buy it. They took on a good partner and purchased the place. They converted several small wheat plots to dove weed and sunflowers. After a few years of no grazing, the place is prime for deer, turkey, dove, quail , and duck (several ponds).

Dove hunting is good enough that I have opened the last few seasons using my Model 42 Winchester .410. However last year the cool rains late Aughst sent them packing early. I use #8.5 target loads and find that they out perform the 3" loads in both pattern and penetration. Talk about fun!!!

My first love was quail, but age is taking care of that. Now, dove and turkey are no. 1.

never seen so many doves on cut wheat as I did today SW of Brackettville...
there's some big farms there and mournings were as thick as I've ever seen them...

With this 4 day weekend this year, they will all be gunshy real rapido

Dove is warm up for teal, and teal is warm up for big ducks.

pshhhh you ever seen a lion warm up before it takes down a gazelle

I wont lie I look forward to teal season even more than big duck season

And ill be on the white catching trout during dove opener
