While on the same trap run where I scored the bobcat, I had caught and dispatched good sized coon in another trap. As I was messing around getting the trap reset, I heard some scratching on the oak tree next to the trap. I wandered over to check out the source and found a juvenile 'coon at the base of the oak, checking things out. He wasn't a bit afraid of me (I guess he had seen me shoot before!). I couldn't bring myself to shoot the little feller! I went back to get a camera, thinking he'd clear out before I returned, but there he sat. I've killed hundreds of 'coons during my lifetime, and have already taken out 30-40 this year; but I couldn't shoot this one. I'm going soft. Or, I guess I'll have to wait until he grows up and I catch him in a trap before I can take him out.

Things might get kind of boring if we didn't leave a few around.

Age takes and years of killing makes all of us a little softhearted at times. I think it is a sign of maturity and most importantly a respect for the creature.
Adios,
Gary

I'm a bit of a softie also. But...when there's been a coon knocking the bird feeders down, I put out the trap. No appeal process for the coon if he's convicted of felonious bird seed theft.
