Yesterday I lost the most wonderful friend and companion. My 2.5 year old Spinone, Maggie died as a result of a perforated intestine. Unwittingly I provided the the source of her premature death by ignoring her playing with a hard wood dowel. The splinters from which she ate with the tragic consequence. This unbelievable and wonderful dog woke me up every morning with a soft nudge, sat at my feet for hours, enthusiastically went every where I went. When she couldn't go with me she spent hours waiting for me at the front window. Always sitting nearby with enthusiasm with one of here toys begging me to play fetch. Her eyes glued to me at all times anticipating our next adventure. She was my best friend, a phenomenal hunter and a companion that will never be replaced. I so regret the loss of this wonderful and loving dog.

First, Don't blame yourself. It's so hard to keep our dogs from doing things which will hurt them. I would have never thought the dowel would cause this terrible damage.

Every night when I pray, I ask God to keep my dog from getting into anything which could hurt her. Our dogs are SO smart but not quite smart enough to stay away from things bad for them.

I'm so sorry for the pain you are feeling now. It will never pass completely but will get better and lead in to great memories. I'm on my third black lab, she's a hoot and everyday I remember my first two and the fun we had.

bless you both

I am so sorry - we stopped giving our girl bones when our vet told us that something like this was possible- never would have thought of that before question asked.
