Latches didn't hold on my Cabelas pelican caseallowing the lid to shift sideways and go off the rails around the perimeter. It was locked with padlocks, but they don't keep the case locked down tight like some case latches with lock holes. Did yours have this type of latches?

No, its a knock off pelican from Cabelas. I haven't looked at it in a long time, but those look like the same latches. They came open on mine during a flight from Arizona to West Virginia.

I have a pelican case (not gun case) never comes open any where, except DFW 4 out of 6 times it has been on luggage belt upside down with latches open. I think this a DFW handler thing.
when the going gets really tough, I sit down and rest

The Starlight latch has a spring loaded pin, which goes into the latch and holds it in place. To open, depress the pin and then lift the latch. The downside is the latch is harder to open than on the Pelican. The upside is the latch is harder to open than on the Pelican. As mentioned, I have both Starlight and Pelican cases. Both are excellent and neither is a mistake by any means, but the Starlight is heavier duty and more durable from the limited samples I have. Starlight latch pin:

If I remember Starlight is the best of the best, then Pelican/Storm
Midway will run the Pelican on sale very often, keep watching them

Cabelas has a very nice one, almost the level of a Pelican with rollers etc...for 175.00.

Pelican. I picked up a single rifle Pelican in Cabella's bargain cave earlier this year, but when I travel I take larger Pelican with 2 rifles.

Of the list of companies I've considered:
Pelican<Storm<Nanuk
I use a Storm iM3300, which is a beefier version of the pelican 1750. I'll be buying more when the need arises. I'd like to be able to justify a Nanuk, but the Storm case is extremely tough, and is half the cost.
