Top sirloin was once my go to family steak for grilling. A friend removed the cap from a whole one and roasted it to medium for a field trial lunch. It took on the taste and texture of a prime rib roast. HEB has prime top sirloin on sale for $3.97 per pound, family pack, limit two. I'm temped to stop by and pick up a package for Chinese bell pepper steak. I'm loaded with bell peppers. Can you think of a better cut of beef?

It's my favorite cut. I also make Judge Crater steak with a whole sirloin that is as good as prime rib.

Love to have one cut 2" thick ( prime ) and grill med.rare. Can't beat it with a stick.

I used to buy it all the time at Readfields in Bryan, TX. It was always either $7.99 or $8.99/lb for the Prime sirloin. The steaks in the cooler were never cut thick enough so I'd have one of the butchers cut me some 1.5"-2" thick. They were always fantastic. I buy them in Costco when I can, but most of the time the better looking steaks for the $$ in my Costco are NY Strips.

Ill never forget Dad sending us to walk to Kroger in the 70s with a 20 dollar bill.. we would buy thick sirloins, usually 3 and 5 baked potatoes for 20 dollars...I never had any other steak until after Hs...AND back then they came with marrow bone still in the middle!!!! Texas land and cattle has a smoked sirloin to die for....

I know who Judge Crater was but...
I gotta ask...what the heck is "Judge Crater steak"?

I made the dish tonight. It came out fine but it was a little tougher than I remembered. A friend and I made it with venison. We'd stew up the venison first.

Growing up we used to eat round steaks. When I moved out it was top sirloin for me.

Now a days it is usually whatever is on sale Ribeye, T-Bone or NY Strips. We splurged and bought some Filets for last Sunday's dinner.

From the cow I like a good Ribeye, then T-bone/ Porterhouse is next up
