I bought a Savage .17 HMR last year and finally got to shoot this past spring and man is this thing deadly. I put 5 shots in a just over 1" group at 100 yds. I would like to tighten that up a bit if possible. It is the model R93 .17 I believe, my question is, can a trigger job be done on this rifle or be replaced or can it just simply be adjusted? I am not sure what the poundage is on the trigger pull but it is enormous, seems like 8-9 pounds. You go to squeeze the trigger and just keep squeezing and squeezing waiting for it to fire. I believe with a lighter trigger that I could stack the bullet holes on top of each other. What say ye' gun folk? Thanks for your advice in advance.

I believe it should be adjustable. If it has an accutrigger you can replace the soring and go even lower.

If it has an accutrigger and the pull is truly 8-9 lbs, then something is wrong. The accutrigger is very light and crisp usually - one of the better factory triggers on the market. I'm not sure how many 17HMR models savage makes that don't have an accutrigger, but it isn't many (if any) if I remember correctly.

Have you removed the barreled action from the stock?

You'll be able to see of it is an Accutrigger, easily. On the back of the trigger is an exposed, vertical compression spring. Lightening the poundage just means turning the spring away from the rifle, so lefty loosey (counter-clockwise). It's like a flat head screw driver, so you need the female of that. I've backed them off by using a tiny flat head screw driver, like an eye glasses sized tool, and just chase the spring around the hole it is sitting in. Once you see it, what I'm saying will make more sense.

The trigger pull weight is grossly exaggerated I'm sure but it is not as smooth and crisp as I think it could be. I will take it apart to see which trigger it has in it and see if I can adjust the pull. Thanks for the help gentlemen, it is much appreciated.

Early model Savages 17 didn't have accu
Triggers as I have one. Triggers cant be adjusted and my gunsmith said cant be replaced with Accutrigger. if you find out something different please post.
