So I lucked out on a piece of property off 290 near 281 and was wondering how the hunting is in that area. Also curious if there might be exotics around. Any help would be much appreciated

There should be tons of deer and every exotic you can find in the hill country.

That is a great area for hunting. My ranch is about 15 miles south of there and I see an abundance of white tails, but most are small. Got two decent 8 point bucks last season. I've started to see occasional blackbuck and axis in the area....just never when I have my rifle! Good luck!

That is a great area for hunting, I think. Take care and good lock to you!

Bushnell X-8 is another best value trail camera ( https://hunthacks.com/best-trail-camera-reviews/ ) that also provides outstanding efficiency. Like the other models, it runs on AA batteries, and with a set of 8 batteries it can work for 9 months.

Saw a big Axis hit on 281 near there just the other day. I bet you're in good shape.

Used to hunt right by there. Mostly WT, but you will likely see occasional Axis or other free range exotic.

My lease is right off that intersection about 2-3 miles NW, have been there three years now. We have good WT numbers and some hogs, but have never seen an exotic. The hogs come and go but never have seen more than 6-8 at once. There is also a good population of turkeys too. But it's a great lease and we've enjoyed hunting there.

If you ever forget anything at the lease, Lowes Market (not the hardware store) in J-City probably has it. Feeders, corn, ammo, hardware, groceries, they have a little of everyying.

Adult late onset hunter. Why did I wait so long to get started?
