Hey everyone

I've had a bow for a few (5?) years now sitting in my attic. I want to start using the bow this upcoming deer season, but since it's been sitting, and I have only shot kid compound bows recreationally, I've got a few questions:

1) I'm left-handed (and left eye dominant) and the bow is right-handed. I've been told both ways I can wear an eye patch and use my right eye to sight, or I should trade this in and get a new bow. Opinions?

1a) Given the age of my bow, would there realistically be any resale value? (I will update this with product information later!)

2) What should I do to the bow to make sure the bow is fit for shooting?

2a) The bow has been sitting in the attic for the past years - will the summer heat have caused any issues? It's been in a hard case the entire time, so no UV damage. And what about the arrows that are currently with it?

3) Are there any accessories I should really consider getting if I don't already have them? I'm not sure what I have since it's been so long.

4) What should I use to determine arrow purchasing? I have some that came with it, but only a few.

If you have any other advice, let me know! And I know, of course, practice practice practice! I plan on shooting a lot this summer, I'm graduating college and have no job lined up, so I will have plenty of time to shoot arrows.

Thanks for the help!

I would have some concerns about a bow stored in an attic unless it was a temperature controlled situation. The extreme heat is not good.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

DO NOT PULL THAT BOW until you have it checked at an archery shop. Strings and cables may be compromised. You can severely injure yourself and the equipment. If this is NOT the bow you will be shooting just start over.

Agreed on the issues of heat and the attic. I would have that checked out first.

Having a bow that fits your correct draw length and is easy for you to shoot will make all the difference on your enjoyment of the sport.

Get you a job lined up first then go play with the toys. J/K. Congrats on graduation!

As to left hand and eye dominate you will almost always shoot best using you dominate eye

Trade it in or sell it and buy a left handed bow.

To keep this topic instead of a new thread:

Anyone use a Matthews Mission Craze?

I found one online - bare bones, so it would need everything, but it looks likr I can part out most everything from my RH bow and then have a LH bow that would work alright, and I would definitely take it in, probably re-strung, fitted, and weighted for White tail hunting.

Is there any sense in this, or do I need to suck it up, skip bow hunting this year and save up for a decent new bow next year?

My price range right now is $300 plus the RH trade in value ($100?). Do I think used is the only option.

I would look for an archery shop in your area. Take your old bow in and have them check it out, maybe try to sell it on consignment if it checks out OK, and then let him outfit you with a proper new bow.
I think you can still get a new bow and stay in your price range.
With a lot of dedicated practice, you can find your comfort range and still have enough time before the season starts.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
