I headed out 250 yards after what I thought were some hogs that disappeared on me and then spotted a hog some 500 yards off to the side and went after him. He turned out to be a 210 lb boar that was munching on the cattle's wheat. I got close enough to him that trees were shielding me from the higher winds and made a shot on him at 156 yards. He went down in place. The 118 gr. MKZ CBB bullet went through shield, muscle, shoulder blade, muscle, ribs, vertebra body (shattering it), more rib, muscle, shoulder blade, and muscle before being stopped by the opposite side shield. I thought that was pretty impressive performance from the bullet, along with a large wound channel drilled through the hog.

Great shooting. Do you typically take vital shots in the field vs. a CNS shot? I usually take head or neck from the blind, but take the shoulders/vitals when hunting wheat fields.

In the blind, I am usually more steady and more shielded from wind and such and so am more apt to take a head shot. I will do it in the field if I feel comfortable with it, but on nights like last night after stalking long distance and dealing with the wind, a shoulder shot seem more prudent, and was...as the bullet hit 2-3" right of where I was aiming because of the crosswind.

I never realized how difficult it can be to stalk 300-600 yards across a plowed at night and then get steady for a head or CNS shot.

Yeah, the higher the crop, the greater the friction. Depending on the crop and planting method, whether the ground is smooth or furrowed can make a huge difference. If it has been heavily rooted just adds to the fun where every step is potentially several inches different in elevation than the last step and you never know if it will be more or less. It all just adds to the cardio experience and gets your heart rate up.

Good Shooting! Did you not hook yourself up like a plow horse and drag that big 'ol hog back in? Yeah, I don't blame you. Nice job on the hog and the video, too.

I love this landowner. I am allowed to let shot hogs lay where they fall, but encouraged to open them up for the turkey buzzards. That's it.
Such a deal!

I never noticed the buzzards needed help but if that's what is asked, no problem.

yep, just pitch them over the fence, not on the road though, critters will wipe them out before I get there next weekend, hell they might even leave me the bones and hair

I'll take a 5 gallon bucket unless it's cheaper by the tote. I can accept freight shipping if need be.
