Ground was saturated, legs shifted, the indentions are the stress of the legs sliding out. Metal fatigue plays are part with an older feeder drum.

Seen it on similar feeders.

I have a bowed-up feeder; made with angle iron and diamond plate, hogs pushed that over, amazing. If hogs had done this you there would be other more obvious evidence.

right ... I'll take the high road ... the feeder did not collapse from the weight of the feeder & corn, period! I wouldn't be afraid to sit on top of the barrel with it full of corn prior to whatever caused the legs to spread and I'm a pretty big ole boy. As I stated several times earlier, the legs weren't staked because there were no hogs known anywhere near the ranch, only feral cattle that the pen has kept them away from the feeder for 5 years, the pen was lame I'll admit but it was what I had available when I found the cows on the place and they have shown no threat in that same amount of time. By looking at the ground in the picture, it appears we have hogs or at least some hogs passing thru. I'll get out there before long with a newly refurbished feeder, cattle panels and t-post/wire anchor the legs of the feeder and re-install my game cams. I'll take pictures of how the current set up looks before taking it all down/re-arranging, along with the new setup.

But the comparison of the old POC make shift feeders described was somewhat of an insult! I've maintained 7-15 feeders over the past ~30+ years, year around on multiple properties and never had one spread out like this one without it being turned over when not staked. I've got 3 currently at my own place outside of Bertam that is infested with hogs, none have pens or staked legs even, the hogs might shove them around a little bit when they are low on corn but never turned one over or did any damage to the legs.

this is how I normally stake the feeder legs down ... when no pen, cattle & hogs in the area...

I would either trim the top of those T-Post off or run them parallel with the feeder legs. You don't want to fall on one while filling the feeder.

Physics. Judging by the indication of moisture and the cracked soil around the feeder compared to elsewhere, I'll bet that water pools underneath and around that feeder and the legs kept sinking and spreading until it collapsed. Had something similar happen with a larger 4 legged feeder - so the legs were angled much straighter. Over the course of the season, it sunk more than 2 feet. Fortunately, it stayed level enough to keep using because we could not budge it - the suction was too great when it was wet and it was like cement when dry.

Prevented from happening again by placing the cheapest 2 ft by 2 ft patio stones I could find at Home Depot.
