Got an email yesterday that the liquidation has started with items @ 40%, 30%, and 25% off instead of "dollars" off. Ammo at 15% off. Supposedly it is nationwide now.
I got some good deals on black powder and archery stuff this morning!

So they raised their prices by 15%, 20%, and 30% and then marked them down the same so the items are still more expensive than Academy?

Drove by the Lake Worth store yesterday and parking lot was completely full. I didn't bother going in. I went in the one in Killeen when they had the sign that said 40% off a couple weeks ago and anything worth buying was still marked regular price or 10% off the only stuff 40% off was crap nobody would want to biy

I stopped by the Mesquite store yesterday and it was exactly what I expected. No markdowns on ammo or guns and the other items marked down were still more expensive than Academy.

I just got a 5.00 pair of Mossy Oak sweat pants, 3 pairs of Mossy Oak winter boot socks for 3.00, and possibly the ugliest pair of Mossy Oak camo jeans on the planet (there's an aspen trunk running down one leg) for 9.00 in the Walmart clearance aisle, so I'm good. But I did resist another one of these..."going down?": Is the Yeti tumbler craze passé?

So they raised their prices by 15%, 20%, and 30% and then marked them down the same so the items are still more expensive than Academy? That's not the case here! I had already checked prices last week on the black powder stuff and some other items, compared to Cabelas & Academy, both of those stores are less than 5 miles from the Gander. Gander's pricing is cheaper by 16% to 33% on many of the items I compared at the other two stores!

I saw a few posts on FB that pointed to news articles that said Camping World is buying the store in College Station and four others in Texas. Link

Oh, and it amazed me how with things being priced at "10%" off how much of the product was gone...the prices they were asking can be beat every day online...amazing how by advertising the store is closing that people flock to the store and purchase things that are still over priced...this is based on my observation of the prices I saw.

I just strolled through mine and I still don't feel like their really motivated to selling all of their merchandise. Naturally anything of value is at 15% off, majority of it was at 10% off when I went there last month. I'd more than likely pull the trigger on some coolers if they were marked down to 40% off.

I would really consider buying one of their overbuilt coolers, but not when they are priced exactly the same as Yeti.

I went yesterday...some stuff is halfway decent but most is still high priced. A lot of items are selling fast however. The one in San Antonio has items between 15-40% off.

The Mesquite store is GARBAGE. Nearly everything is ONLY 10% off which barely gets them into normal price range. Nothing is over 30% off...

Since they aren't closing all their stores, I would be really surprised if we ever saw good "store closing" deals on guns or ammo. Any of those items can be shipped to the remaining stores for sale. AS long as the entire company isn't being liquidated, there is no reason to take a loss on an item when you can ship it to a non-closing store to sell at full price.
Thanks, Rich

Don't waste your time. The one in Cypress has 10% off on ammo which of course isn't enough to get it to Academy prices.

Gander has 126 stores, they are trying to negotiate a Chapt.11 banruptcy which will allow them to operate with a limited number of those 126 stores. Estimated number of stores staying open is only 23 stores. Those remaining stores must be profitable and maintain a certain level of sales per square foot that will be acceptable to Gander's creditors. The other stores will be closed and totally liquidated; lease settlements will be costly.
After September, if they cannot maintain that profitability level, they will close more stores, or will be forced into Chapt 7 liquidation. Cabelas was able to bail out Gander in 1996 by purchasing their catalog operations, but that's not going to happen again! Gander is to reorganize in September; if they make it past Christmas, they may survive, once again! If not, they will be totally liquidated.
Strong rumor is that Camping World will take over 70 of Gander's stores and add them to their 125 stores nationwide. Good Sam Club is also part of Camping World. This is a strong company, hopefully it can take on this much financial responsibility.

I don't figure they will make it......based on my personal experiences at a couple of their stores they were over priced and under serviced......bad culture from top to bottom.....don't see that getting fixed enough to make any appreciable difference....they deserve to be gone IMHO....

Same experience at the Lewisville store - most items are 10-15% off doesn't touch Academy or online prices the majority of the time. No guns or ammo on sale yet.

I went in yesterday and saw little to nothing 30% off as they have signs up...Most was 10 to 15.. The dillon box blind that has been out there since Sept, is still there and was actually cheaper at the after Christmas sale, than it was yesterday....

in my experience Gander Mtn at 30% off means its finally at MSRP. I got taken there on my very first gun cause i didnt know any better. They were good stores to go see stuff live since the ones in DFW and Tyler had good selection but never at a real price.

If I wanted to buy only 10% less than retail I would just use amazon or another online shop and usually get even better deal than just 10%. With prices like that it's no wonder they are going out of business. They even wanted $475 for a police trade in G22. Ridiculous.

I've been watching their discounts on their brand of Yeti style cooler. Right now they are at 20% off, about $305 for a 120qt, if they get closer to 30% off in the coming week I may pull the trigger. Rtic said they are coming out with larger coolers this summer as well. Wish it was now so I could compare the prices.
The store by me is still full of stuff.

Went to the one in Spring today. The only bargain we saw was a pair of camo house shoes for my wife. Normally $25 marked down to $20 with 30% off. I think she paid $14 for them. I think their gun and ammo prices have actually gone up.

I've been in a couple stores and found some deals with clearance markdown clothing, but as said I can see why they are going out of business. High prices and poor customer service is not a successful business plan.

Highly skeptical They changed the one in front of mine to say 50% off, I didn't check the guns since if it's not down to 20% off them it's not worth it. .. Guys BEWARE.. I went in to the Hebron store yesterday and bought several items....Of 22 items 15 did not ring up the correct amt, basically meaning the 10 to 30 % they were suppose to be off did not go through.. Once I brought it to the cashiers attention they seemed upset because they had to go in and manually put in the discount for each item.. eg Plastic worms... Price marked was 3.99... suppose to be 20% off... Rang up 5.99 with 10% off... Snake boots... Marked 209.00 with 40% off..Rang up 229.00 and was only give 10% off...Although they corrected I could imagine how many just buy stuff and assume the deduction was taken...

signs out fron of Frisco now say 40% off/ guns 5% off.. Sounds like normal GM business ethics that got Gander to where they are currently

I was not a customer of GM like everyone else they were to high. I have been there 4 times in the last 2 weeks.Stopped by Waco store today 60% off a lot of stuff. Guns are 25% off If you are driving through Waco might be worth a stop. I bought 13 things and they were all 50-60% off and rung up right.

I stopped in the Lubbock store yesterday just to peruse. Most stuff still isn't much of a deal though I did get a nice Leupold rangefinder except some jackwagon went and stole the battery covers off every single unit they had on display.
