My wife brought this one home a while back. She bought it at a garage sale for a quarter. It was covered in rust and the old pine scales were about to fall off but she liked the shape of it. Blade is marked "Forgecraft Hi-Carbon"
I removed the old scales and cleaned the blade up some. Made a new set of scales out of some old vintage Westinghouse Micarta which isn't pretty but it's tough as nails.
I've made her several kitchen knives but I think that she likes this one better but doesn't want to hurt my feelings by saying so.

I found some of those at an estate sale about 10 years ago for 25 cents each. Like you, I've made a bunch but always reach for these old guys. I use Simichrome to clean them so the Wife will use them.

Have you ever made any long slicing / brisket type kitchen knives? (12-14")

I've made a few using 440-C stainless factory blades for people. They aren't ground by me but they make a good blade. I grind all of my other blades myself but if I ever use a factory blade, which is seldom. I always state the fact that it's a purchased blade and never want to mislead anyone to believe that it's a full custom when it isn't. Some use factory blades without disclosing the fact but I won't!
