I've heard that you don't have to pay taxes to title a UTV/side by side if purchased though a personal sale or out of state.

Called the tax office and the lady said 6.25%. I think she's wrong though!

I didn't have to pay sales tax when I purchased a used Kubota RTV900. It was a personal sale and I financed thru my credit union. I was surprised but didn't complain when the lady said there would be no tax on it!

I'm not sure they need to know. There is no title to transfer that I know of.

If it's titled then yes you pay taxes. If bought out of state it's basically a bill of sale and you still pay taxes is my understanding.

Why would you want to title it? Usually the only things you title are things that have a license plate.

Proof of ownership is about the only reason I can see. As many that are getting stolen only reason I can see.

Good luck selling one without a title.
It is a pain to find someone who'll buy without a title, especially if its newer than 10 yrs old. Every time I sell one, people ask if there is a title and if you say no chances are they back out even if you offer a BOS.

As for taxes - I transferred the title into my name on an ATV and there was no tax. There should have been, not sure why there wasn't.

I didn't get a title for my Artic Cat ATV that I bought from a dealer in Ennis,TX. in 2010. It was brand new,and I financed it also.

I believe they come with a certificate of origin, then you have to bring that to the tax office and pay the title fee to get the title

Has anyone actually read the Texas DMV rules on titles for low speed vehicles? Sounds like the only reason you would want to title it would be to drive it on the road. And then it would need everything a car needs including insurance. Some states require titles but unless I am wrong Texas does not. But I have been known to be wrong before.

No title on mine. It's only used off-road and has no license plate. I do have the manufacturer's certificate of origin which is the only thing provided when it was originally sold by the dealer.

Not required, but preferred by buyers mainly as a proof of ownership.

Yup - you bring the MCO to the tax office if you want to title it. A lot of people don't do it.
