I've got a 2014 ram 2500 cummins. I've been talking bout deleting it for a little bit now and the warranty is going to be up in the next few months. I've deleted my last 2 diesels but they were pre def. I'm hearing that it's better to leave this def trucks alone. I'm fairly happy with the fuel mileage and pulls well but I'm always looking for improvement. This is the first time I've heard of people downing the full deletes on these trucks so I thought I'd reach out and see if anyone has some good insight on this. I've got a few months and one more good trip through the shop to get it gone through but it's on my mind. I know a few years ago there was a guy on here that actually installed the delete kits but I can not find his handle.

Are you running out of warranty due to mileage? I believe they have a 5/100,000 warranty. Either way, these trucks will be just fine deleted. My cousin and his dad each have one and they are deleted, with a tune that adds no more power, so they have zero issues associated with power increases. They said fuel economy is stil the 16-18 range. Only difference they have seen is how much better they sound. When my warranty expires, I will have the same tune done as them, which my cousin did himself using EFI LIVE.

And don't stop with the exhaust, get rid of the awful EGR

I have a 2011 chevy and deleted because the DEF system in it was a POS! I now have a slight increase in mileage and more power.

Yep, I have a weird engine code that says replace the DEF tank on my 2013 duromax, what is that all about?

honest question, once deleted, can it pass the inspections? Now that the are tied to tag renewal I'm wondering if it is more of a problem.

I just got mine inspected in a non emission check county. He did check under truck and beefed a little but I got my inspection. Wasn't my regular guy.

How long do you think you will honestly keep the truck? If forever isn't the answer I don't think its worth it.

Like Jeffbird said there are fines if you are caught and I think they are just going to fall under increasing scrutiny as time goes on. Dealers will not buy or trade deleted trucks.

Deleting is not cheap in itself and if your are going to add performance you are going to have to do other things to keep the truck reliable.

If I do it it'll be the same way I did my last two with a full delete of everything. I plan on keeping the truck for as long as I can. I do all the preventative maintenance and whatever I can do to keep it going for 10 years. I usually try to make one last 200k miles. I live in Grayson county where we don't have emissions and technically I think all of Texas is emission free on diesels. I know the last 3 counties I've lived in didn't require emission testing on diesels. As far as the law on it I wasn't aware that the DPS was cracking down on that. I know the city cops that I know wouldn't even bother messing with it. I do haul cows and tractors on the side but I don't have commercial tags or CDL I just do it for buddies and their buddies. On my pre DEF trucks I saw lots of improvement all the way around after the full deletes but I haven't had a DEF truck done.

They don't emissions test in texas to my knowledge... BUT they are SUPPOSE to do a visual inspection to verify the components of the emissions system are intact. That could kick into gear at any moment. For all practical purposes I think you can keep the emissions stuff on and make 200k with no more cost than it would take to delete it. Unless you are having a lot of trouble out of it.

I leave all mine intact.. then once I get ahead ill trade it in and get another... Most will not trade in the truck if its deleted

My plan was to do what I wanted but I started reading a lot of people having good luck leaving the emissions on for a long time and some people are claiming the truck makers have the emission equipment down to a science unlike it was back in the pre DEF trucks. I've only got 70k miles on my truck now and haven't had any issues that would make me want to delete it but my question was pertaining to people that have deleted there DEF trucks and how much of an improvement they saw. I feel like they got it down a whole lot better than the did. I know I'm also going to have to eventually get the EGR system cleaned and all that and if the dpf gets clogged then in turn it's cheaper to delete it

That code will cost you the cleaning of the tank, then 300 miles after you get it back, you will get the code again. And when you take it back, they will tell you the sensors need to be replaced. How much are sensors? $300 each, and there are two.

I believe you code will also start to cap your speed at 55 mph, then down to 4 mph. Don't ask me how I know this

my story -

Bought my truck with 47k miles. At 75k the dashboard turned red and said SHUT DOWN SAFELY NOW. It would not even turn over. Wrecker took it (under warranty) to Ford dealer. $900 bucks to get it back. Service manager said they see them every 75k or so for DPF sensor replacement. He also said that's the only reason he ever sees them.

It cost me $980 to delete and tune my truck. That's putting money in my pocket.

The DPF is leaning against the garage wall, it's worth $2800 used. I'll keep the truck as long as it keeps running so it's a no brainer for me.

If I need to sell, I can reverse the procedure and be all legal and proper. BTW, it's legal for offroad vehicles.

And it sounds so dang good. Big straight pipes from the turbos back.
