There is a couple of us on here that hunt north/north east of Clarksville about 15 miles. Thick timber, lots of water.

Funny Guy, Actually I have had the lease for 3 years and haven't had one issue. 2-26 foot camper trailers, 2-4 wheeler s, 1 tractor, 12 deer stands, 8 feeders, and 11 game cameras. Maybe that happens in East Texas but so far in North East Texas, no problems.

I just got my first lease out there this year. I am about 5 miles straight west of Negley.

It DOES happen up there. We hunted there for 2 years (my lease manager was there for 5 years) and the land owner was subleasing to some locals during the week and in the off season without telling us. You've got a good LO. Ours was not.

Yes I was stereotyping the E,TX folks even though there are a ton of great folks out there up

There are poachers and trespassers everywhere. When I was hunting off EV Spence reservoir, the locals were so brazen they left cigarette butts and beer bottles in the blinds for us when we showed up on the weekends mad

Yes, I can see that might happen. And yes, very fortunate to have a real nice LO. They have given me strict direction and authority. Anything out of place call the sheriff/game warden immediately. Even warned us of some possible meth-heads in the area that might try to steal things. Point blank we were told, no one is supposed to be on the property but us regardless what they try to tell us.

I've owned 50 acres on the east border of RR county for 14 years now. The best advice I could give is make friends with the locals. It's easy to figure the good ones from the others and there will be others. Make friends with the Game Warden as well. I discovered that most of the sheriff deputies were locals and tended to have that mentality. You were the outsider and even if it was your stuff that was stolen, you really can't say who did it. The Game Warden, on the other hand, got personally insulted when my game cameras kept getting stolen. I don't think he ever caught the guys doing it. But, when he began really poking around, I saw MUCH less unwanted traffic around my place. I have a neighbor that owns quite a bit of property around me. I made good friend with him and that really paid off as well. He lets me know if anything looks odd. Like anywhere, there are good and bad people out there. Most all the good people don't like the bad. But, just like in town, don't leave your stuff unsecured. I live in a VERY safe neighborhood, and I still lock my door when I leave the house. I see my farm the same way. Make it too hard for someone to take it, and they won't. Make it hard for someone to hunt unnoticed and they won't.
There are a bunch of deer out there and the quality is getting better. I had turkeys for the first time last year, so that made for a fun spring. Also, there are a TON of pigs, so hunting year round is not only possible, but, most likely, necessary to keep your feeders and food plots in tact.
I hope this helps.
Thanks!!
Matt

The psycho nut bags have always been there. They just get better press now.
Take away their guns, they'll use knives. Take away their knives and they'll use sticks!!
