This was my 1st time going out with the intention of the killing a turkey and it didn't happen the way I thought it would. I killed a jake by happenstance last Fall and it seams that no matter how much you plan, call or chase them, sometimes it just takes a little luck. Saturday morning I was in the stand no more than a couple of minutes and still loading shells when a nice Tom walked in. Unfortunately, I was so startled and rushed I missed him a little high. 10 minutes later, another (better) gobbler came in but never gave me a shot at him. He came in on my right and circled behind me about 50 yards and then to my left until he was out of range. Thats what hooked me... having a bird so close and keeping him intrigued with calls for the longest.. The round about kind of game I played with him was a ton of fun. Sunday morning was a different story with only a few gobbles early in the morning and no response to calls other than a hen around 8 o'clock. My brother in law shot a pig in a blind not far from me so we went to look for it around 10:15 or so and as we drove up saw 3 Gobblers at the feeder. Got this guy with my rifle and made use of some last second luck. Sometimes all the calling and patience in the world can't contest with some good happenstance... safe to say I'm hooked by these critters though. Thanks to TXmudder for dragging me along again. Good luck to all the rest of the season.

Congrats man! I got my first gobbler this weekend as well and like you there was some luck involved for sure but I'll take it. Nice bird!

I appreciate it guys. Like I said. It was a lot of fun and I hope to get to do this the rest of my life. Not the best bird in the world but who cares. I look forward to older and better birds in the future. Well done HuntCrafted.
