Can someone clarify what the hunting rules are specifically for Black Bellied Whistling Ducks? I have seen these ducks visit my feeders on occasion last deer season, and also saw them out and about on my property during turkey season. Can they be legally taken during the published Duck season? If so, how many? I was reading that for my county (Wilson), you can take up to 6 ducks, and the season runs around mid-November, and again in mid-December thru the end of January. Is this correct? Also, are these ducks any good to eat? I'm not a duck eater, but I have a friend that loves to eat them. Just curious as to what hunting info you can provide regarding this duck species. I hate to admit that I know all about the hunting rules for just about every other animal (deer, turkey, hog, etc.), but I'm dumb as dirt when it comes to ducks or duck hunting...never hunted them while growing up.
AF(Retired)/DV; busted mine to save yours then...bustin' Bambi to save the American hunting dream now!

They fall into the 6 duck limit category. So some ducks you can only shoot so many of. The numbers can change from year to year. For example, if this coming season it says you can shoot only 1 canvasback and three wood ducks, you can shoot 6 ducks total per day. But in those 6, you can only have 1 canvasback and 3 woodducks. So that's 4 ducks, and could shoot two mallards to fill out your limit.
Unless otherwise specified, any duck species you can have 6 of. That is, as long as the limit is 6 that year.

Also, do not hunt them by your deer feeder.
I'm with GK because I like salty old dudes.
