I always thought it would make a beautiful inlay in a hatband. Only seen 1 in the wild. In San Antonio at my brother in laws folks at Christmas this year. They are against salado creek. It wasn't aggressive at all, but because of lil ones playing around and dogs, it didn't get a pass.

Cool looking snakes and supposedly non-aggressive, but I still wouldn't be picking it up.

Venomous. Mushrooms are poisonous.

I'm not scared of snakes and like having them around, but I'm not touching one of those and would kill it instantly if it was anywhere it might come face to face with young kids. The crocodile hunter was pretty familiar with how "gentle" stingrays are right up to the point that he took a barb to his chest cavity.

Cool snake.....I would love to see one in the wild. That would conclude the venomous Texas quad; rattlesnake, copperhead, cottonmouth, coral....
Not naming sub-species of course.....

if your confidant id say so... From the folks iv herd that handle them they say you almost have to injure one to get it to bite

Considering the large doses of antivenom may no longer exist, http://www.newstatesman.com/blogs/alex-hern/2012/10/us-runs-out-coral-snake-anti-venom , I'd go with at least a pair of leather gloves.

A little unrational ....snakes are very beneficial....rats and mice are much worse to have around...

A loooong time ago (1970's) I used to attend the Dallas Herpetology Society meetings which had quite a few professionals in attendance including a fella byb the name of Dave Barker who worked at the Dallas Zoo and managed the herp collection. I did volunteer work there and had access to the non public areas of their collection which was diverse and impressive, even for a muninciple zoo. Anything poisonous was strictly off limits but I watched Dave handle their coral snakes bare handed. I've come across a few over the years and wouldn't risk handling a wild caught speciment bare handed but I handled them with long gloves and never saw the slightest bit of agression. As far as snakes go, they're extremely timid with short, stocky skulls adapted for burrowing and have small jaws that are rear fanged with a limited ability to bite. They're small snakes, I don't recall seeing one more than 18, maybe 20 inches long. Most were smaller.

fwiw, I used to breed morphs of California Rosy Boas and several species of old world chameleons. I've got a Sinaloan Milksnake I've had going on 10-12 years that was no longer than my finger when I got him. And an Eastern Box Tortoise I found several years ago in the middle of a road that had been hit by a car. I thought he was toast and when I picked him up he was hanging limp out of his shell. I was about to toss him on the side of the road when I noticed he was trying to tuck in his shell. I thought, what the heck, and took him home. He had a cracked shell, broken hind leg, and his tail had been severed by the edge of his shell when he was ran over. Patched him up, immobilized his leg, several months later, he was (not quite:) good as new but gtg. And if anyone tells you a tortoise can't run, mine can. Dangle a canned pear or raw chicken liver where he can see it, he'll haul tail to get fed.

I don't kill snakes, I'd rather have some secretive snakes around my property than an infestation of rats & mice. I've had wiring harnesses and cabling chewed to peices on several expensive cars including a late model GT3. Required a custom built wiring harness from the Porsche factory in Stuttgart Germany, parts and labor at Boardwalk Porsche was around $26k if I remember correctly.

Snakes...... much better than the alternative. Unless you're a sissy.

I haven't seen one in a long time. Was thinking they were another imported fire ant casualty. The copperheads have been prolific this year.

One shot is all it should take.
