Have a business meeting with some big whigs of the company up in Austin on Wednesday and Thursday. Have not been up that way in a good minute...what are some good food joints to stop at? We'll be meetings all in the north side of town I believe mainly..

If you're near downtown I would suggest Chupacabra Cantina, shockingly the cabrito is really good.

Eddie V's on 5th Street! The name is "Eddie V's Prime Seafood," but don't be fooled. They do awesome steaks. Good music, too, that's not overbearing. Usually a 3 or 4 piece on weekends playing big band classics.

edited to add: Parking is tight there. I usually take a cab from the hotel.

Wrong forum , so I'll hijack it a little. My daughter got married there over the Christmas holidays. It was mostly lawyers from her law school in the wedding party. They all recommended the downtown foot trucks.

when all the higher ups come in from New Hampshire, most request Texas BBQ ... County Line on the Lake, Stiles Switch, Stubb's were all hits.

Some of the others that come in aren't much into BBQ, so for northern Austin area ... the Oasis, Eddie V's Prime Steakhouse, Iron Cactus, Roaring Fork, Jeffrey's, Fleming's, Truluck's, Chez Ze

When I used to entertain clients and executives, what I found is that most of them are used to if not tired of high end meals/steaks.... while some simply milk you for all they can.

My point being that people really appreciate being able to eat food they would have otherwise never found or haven't had in a long time. Having been Austin for 5 years I have found some places that are great.... although maybe considered "low brow" as far as dining they are great and have other options near by.

In no particular order.....

Gus's famous fried chicken- I think is the best fried chicken EVER and its located down town off San Jacinto and close to is....

Max's wine dive- This place is higher end and has great wine selection with southern style food

Stay Gold - This is actually a bar with great mixed drinks like old fashions and has "toaster trailer" in the back garden area which has an amazing tomato soup grilled cheese and excellent baked mac and cheese.(located off Cesar Chavez

For North Austin high end dining I would suggest BARTLETTS!- GREAT FOOD from prime rib to sea food

In the Domain area you have all sorts of high end stuff like McCormic & Schmitz

I always seem to be in the minority, but I like Ironworks BBQ downtown by the convention center.
As a bonus, it's historic and has Big Red in the fountain.

The Odd duck is a cool experience, you can sit at the bar and watch them cook. They serve tapas style. Always different menu and alway awesome. It's kinda south though.
Haven't talked to the wife all day, I suck.

I haven't been to the Ironworks mainly due to downtown congestion and lack of parking. Had pretty good Q from what I remember. I try to avoid downtown like the plague these days

Bangers on Rainey Street is pretty good. Gus's is good, but Lucy's is the real deal for fried chicken.

Uchi for sushi or you can really blow their mind and take them to Texas Chili Parlor. I promise you that no one has taken them to a place like that.

Ironworks has been solid for decades. Others will come and go but Ironworks will still be serving consistently good Que.

BBQ-Freedmans, LA Barbecue, Micklethwait Craft Meats, Franklin, etc. are all awesome.
Steaks or Seafood-Austin Land and Cattle (not to be confused with Texas Land and Cattle) or Eddie V's
Pizza- Via 313 (it blows Home Slice and some others away)

Freedmans is cool as it's a historic building, modern bbq and awesome drinks.

Stiles Switch BBQ is in North Austin, fantastic Que and hardly ever a line, plenty of beers to choose from.

Valentinas Tex Mex is awesome as it combines BBQ and with tacos and that's just a match made in heaven, plus it's a breakfast option as well.

Via 313 as mentioned above is awesome too.
