I’m thinking of buying a target 22LR pistol. I’m leaning toward the S&W. It seems to be as accurate as the MkiV, seems to have a nice trigger and is reliable. The Mk IV is slightly easier to take down (the S&W isn’t hard), but costs more.
Any thoughts?

Don't bother responding. It doesn't matter what you think because I just couldn't resist and ordered the SW Victory

Have looked at the Victory very hard. Been a Ruger guy for three decades, but that S&W looks to be a fantastic rimfire.

I went with the Ruger Mark IV because it's also offered in the blue finish which I prefer over stainless steel.

I'm a Buckmark fan but the Victory does look good on paper. Be sure to keep us up to date on how it goes!

Picked it up today. I really like it so far.
Nice fit and finish Trigger has a decent break below 4lbs (I used spent cases for dry firing) The barrel seems to be a true match barrel. It's not as rough as a CZ and a Savage where you can see the tooling marks. The inside is more like a 22 Shilen barrel. I wonder if they have lapped it.
Hopefully I'll shoot it in a few days and report back.

I like the fact you dry fire on a used hull, better yet order some of the plastic ones, Never dry fire a rimfire if the pin contacts the breech face upon firing.
I use them in all my .22's

I’m super careful about dry firing. I have a custom 22 that has a cone breech barrel that doesn’t forgive any dry firing. But sometimes you can’t help it and that’s why I have a chamber ironing tool I take with me just in case. I’ve notice that modern rimfires (except cone breech) are more accommodating though.

Took the gun to Bullet trap and shot at least 500 rounds. The good: The gun was reliable with all ammo I tested (Blaser, CCI, M22, Automatch, Minimag, AE22 and SK+). I got one misfire with CCI and a few with the M22. Overall, I’m happy with the reliability. The ejection was strong with a good pattern. The gun is pretty accurate. The below groups are from 25Y, with a red dot and using the cheesy rest you see in the pic. Well…the range is advertised for 25Y, but my rangefinder told me it’s 23Y, and I trust my rangefinder more than the range advertisement. Right is Fed automatch and left is SK+ The trigger has some predictable creep and overall is nice. It’s not a match trigger tough. The not so good: Almost every time I used the slide stop on a new mag, my hand would push the safety on. If I wasn’t careful, my thumb would also action the safety. This can be mitigated by training. It’s not a big deal, but is annoying. After several hundred rounds, the gun was really dirty. I got a missefire with the M22, and the round woudn’t eject. I had to use a small screwdriver to get it out. Next time, I’ll run a boresnake every couple of hundred rounds I think. I’m in the process of cleaning the barrel and can see big chunks of lead inside the barrel and near the muzzle (I do have dedicated lead removal product, so I’m good) Conclusion: I’m very satisfied. I like the pistol a lot. It’s more accurate than I am. I put back the original sights to practice my pistol fundamentals.

Here’s a quick update. I went back to Bullet Trap. I shot a full box of 375 of CCI AR tactical ammo and 10 CCI mini mag. Total rounds fired: 375+10=385 rounds Malfunctions: ZERO!!! and with NO cleaning! Accuracy: with the target, all the way to the back (23Y), with a 3moa red dot and the gun range rest, for 10 shot groups, I got 0.983” with CCI AR tactical and 1.276” with min mags. With a scope, I’m sure I’ll get even better accuracy. That’s it. I’m officially impressed by this gun!

I'm cleaning it right now. I just wanted to see if the gun will remain accurate and reliable after lots of rounds. Honestly I wasn't expecting the gun to perform so well through almost 400 rounds and with no malfunction. Realistically I won't put more than 250 rounds through this gun in a single session and without any cleaning. But it's good to know that the gun can handle it.

Buzz, I’m sure you already have 22lr target pistols. But It you don’t, get one! This is my first 22lr pistol. It’s such a fun gun. It’s more accurate than any of my center fire handguns (including my G35 and Sig P226 in 9mm) and with that picatinny rail, it’s so versatile. I just read several reviews where people are getting 1” groups at 50Y! I think I’m going to shoot this gun a lot. I’m really looking forward to shooting steel at 50+Y.
I almost forgot…. It’s cheap to buy and cheap to shoot.
