I had a pretty awesome experience this past week at the Austin DU banquet. I won a Benelli shotgun which is awesome BUT not what made the night so memorable. My 7 year old daughter attended for her first time and really didn't want to go. She's very torn between wanting to hunt/fish/etc and do "girl stuff". Of course every time she goes hunting or fishing she loves it. Anyway just a few minutes after I won they did the kids raffle and she won a pink bbgun and a skinning knife.
She was almost in tears the rest of the night and kept telling everyone that "we are winners" which was pretty funny. Said it was the best night of her life and she can't wait to go hunting with her new pink gun! I wish we would have gotten a photo together but in the chaos of the evening we didn't think about it. I'm hoping the experience helps build her love for the outdoors and it's something I'll always remember seeing her so fired up to be just like dad. That won't last forever!
