Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about the deer hunting in Coal County, Oklahoma. I have an opportunity to join 2 other hunters on a 300 acre lease just east of Clarita, maybe 5 or 6 miles north of the Atoka County line. One of the property boundaries runs along Clear Boggy Creek. It is primarily a bow hunting lease which is what I am looking for but the price per acre seems a little steep - $22.50 per acre / $2250 per hunter. Can that area support 1 hunter per 100 acres? I have no idea about the surrounding property or hunter density.
Any feedback would be much appreciated. It is that time of year where if you snooze you lose when it comes to lease openings and commitments.

I would want more property for that drive and money, Thats just my opinion. Ive never hunted there, but I regularly here Atoka brought up. So the hunting is probably either great, or so-so due to high pressure.

Thanks. Not a lot of pressure on this property but there is on one of the surrounding properties. Of the 3 hunters, 2 are bow hunters and the other guy only hunted twice this past year.

That seems very expensive unless there is proof from TC pics and hunter referrences of quality deer.
Remember also if you only rifle hunt the season is very short compared to Texas.

I grew up not too far way from there, and can't testify to the quality of deer since it has been 30 years since I hunted in the area, but I can testify to the quality of the meth addicts, road hunters, and all-around low lifes running in the area. There are some great people in Little Dixie, but there is also a lot of trash thrown into the gene pool. Don't leave anything in camp that you have an emotional attachment to, or don't want to replace.

We have a place not too far from Antlers, about 45 minutes East of there and Antlers is known as the Deer Capital. There are indeed some big deer in that area. But don't take my word for it, see if the landowner will allow you to set up some TC's and corn piles to "take inventory" for confirmation of herd and buck quality.
Are you going to pull those pistols, or whistle Dixie?
