Had to make a hard decision to put down my old girl Kylee yesterday. We're not sure what caused it but she suddenly started having problems breathing and wouldn't move around hardly at all. All that the vet could tell from the tests she did was that she was having heart failure and her lungs were full of fluid. They put her on oxygen immediately and gave her a few meds to try and stabilize her so she could make the trip to a specialist. Unfortunately her conditions would drop again immediately after being taken off the oxygen and they didn't think she would make the drive. One of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I've had that dog since I was 13. I knew she was getting old and didn't have a lot of time left but I wasn't expecting it to come so suddenly. Her legacy will live on through her son Ki. She will be deeply missed.

When things start to go down hill, they can go down hill in a hurry. Learned that last year with mine. It was the hardest decision I have ever had to make.

Sorry for your loss, dogs are one of the best things God gave us. I lost my best buddy last year, a Catahoula named Shiner. Seems like the older i get the harder it is to deal with the loss. I will always have at least 2 or 3 dogs. I can't imagine life without a dog in it.

Our Brittany got into rat poison a couple of years ago and almost died. She had the same symptoms, only reason I mention it... sounds similar. Took them a while to figure it out even at the specialist. I didn't know if normally takes about a week to hit a dog.

A good dog, like a good friend, can never be replaced. There may be another but there will always be a special place in the heart and memory for each one.

As a good friend told me after losing a pup, "Dogs won't always be our whole life, but they make our lives whole".
