Thinking about using some 200 year old teak for knife handles. It came from my ancestors home in rural Mississippi. I'll give the knives to my kids and grandkids. I know it to be a relatively soft wood but don't know much about ancient wood aging. Any of you guys ever tried something like this?

You would need to know it's origin. Real teak is somewhat soft and requires special procedures to glue together. South America teak wood, not sure the real name is a beautifully hard wood that will make great handles. What was the wood used for before?

They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason! nidea

House and I have no idea of it's origin. I haven't cut it yet

They make wood hardeners for oil stabilizing or you could resin stabilize and this will harden the soft spots as well as make it extremely climate resistant. Either would be best done with a vacuum stabilizer. You can send it to someone that does this or make your own - I've got about $100 invested in the last one I built

Chops, I also built one about 10 years ago with either poor luck or poor skill. I tossed it.
