If you ever happen to be motoring along Highway 6 near Marlin and the hungrys hit you, the northernmost of the 3 exits to Marlin will take you to the Lakeview Cafe - about half a mile off Hwy 6. Not just a burger place, but a sit down style diner. Good chicken fried and an excellent burger and spicy fries, and a full menu of other stuff. The burger today was big, juicy/drippy, and old fashioned, in that it came wrapped carefully in wax paper. I eat there when I go to Marlin to the Chiropractor. I thought you guys might want to know about that little diner. It's worth a visit.

Thx, Worth remembering. Go thru Marlin every time I go to the Temple VA and stopped eating at the 'burger place right on the corner of 7 and 6 I guess it is...and how we got to stopping at Greens in Zabcikville to get take out stuff. Probably still gonna stop at Greens to get some kolaches no matter what, but a sit down place worth the stop is a treasure. Ron

I hear it is better now than it was under the previous ownership.

I didn't know that the ownership had changed, but things do seem a bit upgraded. Like I mentioned, Marlin has 3 exits off of Hwy 6. Coming from the College Station direction, the first exit is at Hwy 7. The Mexican restaurant, El Charro, at that exit is quite good. Nothing much at the second exit at Hwy 147, except that's the direction of my house. The third exit takes you past the Case tractor place, and the Lakeview Cafe is a half mile past that.
The only other food place of interest is if you go past El Charro about a half mile on Hwy 7, there's a good donut/kolache place next to the HEB.
Living in this food wasteland, I'm always looking for decent places to eat.

My wife and eat at Lake View in Marlin and it was very good.It has changed owners and the locals said it was doing a lot more business. I started eating burgers there in the 50'S. My uncle use to be the manager there for several years. That was before they added dining room. I also have some bad news, Dairy Cream in Mart is closed. We went to Mart to eat Cheese Burgers and they closed and we went to Marlin. It is another place that we like to eat at, The Chicken Place. It is on Hwy.7 west of downtown. Good chicken, a small cafeteria, and CLEAN.
