Been about 6 months or so since I've welded anything other than just tack welds. Picked up a $200 5x8 trailer with ramp, cut off the rails and rewelded new 2 inch 1/8 angle back on. Looks way better. Total invested including purchase price, $250. Haven't put the fenders back on, debating if I even want to or not.

Thanks - felt good to weld again. Probably going to give it a fresh coat of paint, lay new wood and be done with it.

I believe fenders are required if you're going to use it on the road.

yep!

9.1.2 Load-bearing fenders constructed of minimum 16-gauge formed steel covering the wheels, with non-slip top surface on fenders and trailer deck.

Forgot to mention that in my post.
I bought new fenders but haven't put them on yet as I haven't found a good way to mount them without welding new supports to them.
Thanks for the heads up, when I searched it I couldn't find anywhere that actually said it was required. I will figure out a way to mount them hopefully this weekend

Thanks, I'm happy with how it turned out.
New parts: axle, wheels/tires, lights, tongue, side rails, fenders.
Practically a brand new trailer for only $250.
Wood may come later but for now this'll do. My four wheeler tires rest on the support beams so for the time being no reason to spend the money for wood

Hauled it for the first time Friday with weight on it. Pulled excellent, extremely happy with it so far.
