I am trying to find a rubber block about 20" long x 3" wide x 1" tall. It can be smaller in like 3x3x1 is fine cause I was going to cut it down anyway.

I've looked everywhere and cannot find anything. Figured the DIYers would know.

Soft or hard rubber? Any idea of the Durometer hardness you need?

You might try Texas Rubber Supply on Irving Blvd in Dallas. I don't know if they have a website.

If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

Thanks. Ultimately I'm trying to make a barrel rest and I think I'm looking at this the wrong way. May just buy one or a broken gun cabinet and just use the part

Do you have a picture of something like you are going to make?

Make a plywood frame in that shape. Cover the U shapes with 1/2" foam rubber from Hobby Lobby. While at Hobby Lobby look in the material department for vinyl that looks like leather, old days we called it Naugahyde. This will take a little or maybe even a lot of practice to make it look good.

Glue a strip of the foam in the U shapes, then using a wider strip of the Naugahyde and cover the foam and a little of each side of the plywood. Use upholstery tacks to attach the Naugahide.

Another idea, cut the shape like you want, and get some heavy leather, the real stuff get about 4oz so it is about belt thickness leather. Then cut leather strip the width of the rack and glue it all along the top side. The thick leather will act like rubber cushions.

A shorter explanation of the last one.

Cut your wood to shape, and glue thick leather in the area that is black in this picture. Make sure you finish staining and applying finish to your wood before you glue on your leather.

Just throwing this out...... maybe 1/2 inch electrical or plumbing PVC with foam pipe insulation padding would be an option.

Thanks gents. I appreciate it. Probably going to go the plywood route. I've got a lot of it laying around.

get an ac guy to sell you a foot of 3/4" neoprene insulation like used on outside lines.

put it on a pc of pvc, you can get fancy and add 90s and "feet" (flanges) if you need height. just glue threaded couplings on the legs and add metal flanges for pipe, helps too for wght.

You can make a test run for less than the cost of a 6 pack. Go to Goodwill or Salvation Army thrift store and buy a couple of leather belts. Cut your frame, cut the belts to width with a utility knife. Glue with contact cement.

Check the belts carefully, cheap belts are not always real leather, but they are sandwiched leather with cardboard in between thin slices of leather.
