looks like my wife and I will be traveling up to Denison this Friday/Saturday to visit one of my wife's aunts (95 y/o) in a nursing home under hospis care ... anything to see, not to miss attractions, places to eat, etc. or in that general area???

Denison is President Eisenhower's birthplace and there is a museum. Perrin Field has a small Air Force museum. Lake Texoma is nearby. I can't remember the last time I ate in Denison so I'll be no help there.

I'm a fan of Hucks Catfish there in Denison. Of course you could always go up the road a few miles to Choctaw and enjoy the casino and all it has to offer.

Hucks is awesome. Country Java downtown is a nice little coffee stop with sandwiches and such. Drive out to Texoma and go through Grandpappy and highport marinas. Eisenhower birthplace and Perrin Field are good suggestions too.

Loy Park is worth checking out. While you're there you can get your pic made with Ike. Trust me, you can't miss Ike.

What about farther out of Denison, back towards the DFW area?

If you wanted a nice dinner I would run down to Ricks Chophouse in downtown McKinney.

Ricks is very good. Make reservations if that's what you decide.

Also in McKinney just off the square is a very good
Mexican (not TexMex) Restaurant. The theme is dishes
from the different regions. BIEN SALSA. We like it.

LOL yeah, I figured Dallas has stuff but not interested in anything in the city. Her aunt is in nursing home in Denison and we will likely be there a couple hours, so most of our time will be somewhere else. Wife was looking for a hotel room but what she found was in Plano, which is likely where we will spend the night Friday. Then things to do on Saturday before heading home.

Someone has already mentioned this but Durant is only about 20 miles from Denison. The Choctaw Resort is pretty nice. Oh, I have a kid in college so gamble while you're there. up

Brian Wilson is playing there Friday night.

I mentioned going on up to Durant but the wife said she thought we would need to point back south after visiting her aunt. confused2

pretty open to most anything ... wildlife parks, museums, points of interest, things to see or do, old style settler's village and/or old ways of life (really cool one of these just outside Waco), parks, knickknack stores, etc. Really just looking for something different that we haven't seen or done before. I've traveled to pretty much all points in TX & surrounding states but a lot of it was merely passing thru going somewhere specific.

I think in that area, the nursing home might have the better food

Based on what you like I think you will like downtown McKinney. Great shops, great food (including Ricks and bien Salsa)and it's all pedestrian friendly.

bang wife changed up plans last night ... seems we are going to the Ft. Worth Stock yards on Friday, spend the night somewhere on up towards Denison, then visit her aunt mid-late morning, then start heading back home. Thanks for all the inputs anyway!!! bang

anyone have any recommendations around the stock yards?

The Mexican restaurants back toward downtown are all pretty good. Joe T's gets most of the press, but La Playa Maya, and El Asedero (sp?) are both tasty.

Oh, should add, if you eat dinner at Joe T's and plan a drive to Denison afterward, stay away from the margaritas. They can put you on your knees.

Any Tim Love joint is good (Lonesome Dove (steak), Love Shack (burgers) and Woodshed (bbq)

Joe T's is an awesome atmosphere with above average food.

Heim BBQ is my favorite bbq joint in DFW

There is a log cabin village as well since you mentioned you liked that kinds of stuff, plus downtown FW is pretty awesome as well.

If you want breakfast or lunch in Denison, try Nick's Family Dinner. Great home cooking.
