That will work.
A lot of guys like Nosler Partitions and Accubonds too for both deer and tougher stuff like elk and nilgai.

For a 165 bullet why would you not go 30-06 or even 308? Unless you are hunting super long distance there should be enough velocity for expansion?

More speed the better with Barnes and eventually i would like to go west for elk.

165 gr. will work but get the premium bullets that won't expand too quickly. Penetration is the key in taking one down.

^^EXACTLY!^^

For that cartridge I wouldn't load it with anything lighter than a 180 gr, but that's just me.

You really should experiment with different weights and see what the gun likes.
I would use a premium bullet in the best performance weight.

180 - 200 grain premium bullet like the Accubonds or the ELD-X should work well.

For nilgai, when you think you have enough, get more.

I like that. Goes along with Bedford Forrest.

Or something like that.

Too bad theres no 180ttsx factory loaded. Id rather use that than accubond for more penetration on nilgai and less meat damage on the deer.

You will find the faster the TTSX goes the happier you will be with it regardless of weight. 165 is plenty of bullet

I used a 165 gr Swift A frame on my cow bison hunt in January and she went less than 30 yds. I use 165 gr bonded bullets for all my hunting in my 300wsm. Everything from antelope to bison, elk included and they work great. The 165 A-frame weighed 129 gr after recovery from double lung pass through and shoulder joint annihilation. Nice flat shooting with lots of energy, 66 gr of IMR 4350.
Spouse pushes 180 gr through 300 wsm and it has significant bullet drop compared to the 165 gr bullets. We hunt out to 350-400 yds pretty regularly out here in the west.

Shot 200 grain nosler partitions out of my 300 wby. I shot a 220 lb boar, drug him back to camp and lined him up with a rail road timber behind him. I shot through the center of both shoulders into the timber from about 50 yards and the bullet made it about 3/4 of the way through the timber and retained about 60% of its weight.

I love nosler partitions they are tuff to beat for on game performance. I think a 165-200 grain partition would serve your extremely well.

When they discontinued it a few years back I bought every box I could find. It's going with me to the Yukon this fall. Actually don't prefer it for sheep but grizzly is always a possibility up there. Plus, my rifle likes it. I don't shoot long range.

165 will work just as well though for your uses. Maybe better....

The 165 grain A-frame would make a great big game hunting bullet. However, there's not a big difference in bullet drop from the 165 to 180 grain, keeping pressures equal. If you are running 66.0 grains of 4350 with a 165 A-frame, I'm showing that to be about 3050 fps and 58K psi, and a G1 BC of .367. If you were to take the same 180 grain A-frame at 2924 fps and 58K psi and G1 BC of .400, here's the drop comparison. The 180 grain is less than 2" drop difference of the 165 grain, at 400 yards. Even at 500 yards, the difference between the 2 bullets is 3.11", which is more drop to the 180 grain. If there is a "significant" bullet drop between your 165 and 180, one is going very fast and the other very slow to have a significant drop difference. But keeping things equal, there is minimal difference between the 2 bullet drops, even out to 500 yards.

Thanks for all the recommendations..i see that federal has a 180gr trophy copper..their version of the ttsx. Ill probably try that,165 ttsx, and one other. And use which ever the rifle likes more. I really like the all copper bullets since my wife used tsx in my AR15 this year for deer. They really impressed me plus less meat damage a close ranges.

In very light fast bullets all copper bullets do big things. In a 30 cal I have never been pleased with their expansion or the majority of the time the lack there of.
