With Turkey season quickly approaching, i'm curious what everyone's favorite type of call is. Which do you prefer? I like my diaphragm calls.

A hunt based only on trophies taken, falls far short of what the ultimate goal should be.

Slate and diaphragm. Sometimes one works when the other does not. I don't really use any other types other than an owl hoot.

Diaphragm, slate, box, Stryker box, wing bone and if the gobbler is close enough no call just voice. I keep numerous calls in the vest since you never know what a gobbler will really like. Some low raspy while others real high toned calls. I also tend to play with them too much really like getting them in close and them putting on a show. But the birds that do not respond very vocally I usually tone down on the calling.

To me the most fun is getting them in close and let them put on their Spring time show.

I'm new to Turkey hunting and am starting out with a primo box call. How much harder are the other types of calls to use compared to a box call. Just out of curiousity.

Honking the truck horn as a locator. Diaphragm if I had to choose one.

This past weekend I was trying out a new call: ruger I Hunt app on my phone and a very small Bluetooth speaker.

The app has over 600 calls of various animals.

Saturday morning we were filling feeders and heard turkeys in the distance. broke out my phone & speaker and started gobbling & brought a group of birds in they came close enough to spot us on a can-am & atv.

Went back that afternoon and setup in a tripod and tried my hand again. Wife had driven bye in the can-am a few min before I got there on her way to her hunting area and spooked the birds off my setup. ( she texted me sorry) Anyway as I was pulling up I could hear the birds talking and moving out of my area. I jumped up in the tripod and started calling using the I-Hunt APP & Bluetooth speaker and was getting no response - This went on for 30 min or so & I started calling again & as soon as I called I looked down and a bunch of jakes and hens had come in behind me and were almost under my tripod they had made no noise at all. Busted big time so another 30-45min later I hear gobbling off in the distance & starting using the tom Gobble on the app talking to them and they started responding & getting closer & closer over 30-45min it seemed they were in heavy brush about 50-75 yards out. every time I would call they would respond- was trying to figure out what call to use to pull them close( had texted a friend & he said sound sexier) anyway after reading that text I looked up & there were 4 big beautiful Toms at 20 Yards just looking around for me. I could not move to take pictures but they were just awesome looking in the sun very bright and colorful. all had beards in the 8-10 length. I will not mess with them anymore until opening weekend and see if I can get a shot on them.

The I-hunt & Bluetooth speaker is not for everyone but I never had anyone teach me how to call using a box or slate the times I have tried it there is no telling what I was talking to the turkeys about LOL hetman

Primos True Double Mouth Call is my go to diaphragm. Perfection Screaming Demon is what I use for a slate, and I use a box call only as a locator on windy days. The Perfection call is a glass slate and i have not found anything to match it. The Houndstooth "Dixie Hen" glass slate is close, but the Perfection call is cheaper. I try to use the slate as much as i can until my mobility is limited. I also use a custom wing bone call i was given for eastern birds, but the Rios and Merriams don't seem to respond to it like the Easterns do.

I've been playing around with a turkey call app, too, paired with a portable bluetooth speaker. And it works better than all of my other attempts on anything else I've ever used.

Used the aptly named "Assembly Call" option, and watched a 13 jakes make a beeline for me from about 200 yards away.
