Is there a need by anyone for old compound bows? I have 2 that I bought aprox. 30 years ago that I am tired of looking at. Not sure of the value in $.

Not sure how old or their condition, but me and several buddies have used older compounds for bow fishing setups for several years. Not sure if there is much demand though.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I have over a dozen of various brands and ages and I still hunt with them all and still KILL with them too. I still shoot aluminum arrows from them and guess what, the deer have no idea that the arrow is aluminum. It's ridiculous to me to think that these are obsolete, they killed deer twenty years ago and the deer haven't changed so not sure why they won't kill deer today. Oh and before somebody tells me how there are better options and faster bows, you are right but there are also crossbows that are even faster and rifles so if you want a better option buy a rifle. If you are looking to get rid of them or aluminum arrows hit me up but like I said I've got a dozen so I don't need them but I would shoot them. Here's a turkey I killed with a Hoyt Raider that was made I think in 1985 and the turkey never once judged my choice of weapon.

I agree with cmc when it comes to those old bows still being able to kill deer. Those old bows may not be lightning fast as todays bows that you need a bank loan to buy, but if they are mechanically sound they are more than just wall decorations in an experienced hunters hands. Some folks still use longbows and recurves with wood arrows and do just fine.

Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

The old bows have more hand shock and less letoff than today's bows but sure are smooth on the draw cycle. Like Jimbo pointed out if they are still sound they will still work. Though they are not as fast as todays bows they are still faster than recurve and longbows and just like traditional bows they will get the job done if the shooter does theirs.

Right. I shoot the same arrows out of one of my recurves as I do one of my old compounds and they shoot about the same speed. If I shoot something with a recurve people think I'm this great bow hunter and tell me how hard traditional is but if I kill with my old compound I get asked why I'm shooting that old piece of junk bow. It's all about material possessions in some people's minds I guess, mine is better than yours, I got the newest, I spent more on this.

I shot an OLD pse compound bow with those tree trunk aluminum arrows for many years. They were around 550 grains, IIRC, with a 100 grain head at 250 fps. That bow and those arrows killed a lot of critters. The good thing about those big arrows was they always gave deep penetration. Now days, arrows are lighter and faster, and limit penetration most of the time.

My old Mathews FX shoots 505 grain arrow at 258 fps with a 28" 2314 and. 100 grain head and I never lose arrows. If I'm in the tree the arrow will be burried in the ground after it passed through and if I'm on the ground it's usually laying a few yards behind where impact was. It's all about KE not speed, a deer is faster than any arrow ever shot anyway.

I've yet to have a deer react and drop to get my arrow out of the kill zone within 25 yards (east or west texas) Maybe I'm just shooting at relaxed deer, but I don't see it happening

@cmc, I'm right there with you.
Years ago I went to archery only hunting when rifle "hunting" became too easy. I started with an old browning and worked my way up through the years. I recently sold my hoyt alpha max and now shoot a long bow and a self bow, with an old high country as a back up. I also quit duping out my cash for gimmicks like cammo, estrus , and scent eliminator. (sit still, stay on the does, and hunt the wind) By finding appreciation for older methods I found the difference between being a real hunter and just a shooter.

Back in the early '90's and I had the baddest, newest, screamingest bow ever made! Anyone remember the Oneida Eagle? Yeah, it was fast for the day. But it also was the loudest bow I have ever shot, and no good way to dampen the sound. At least not back then!

Shot an old classic last week, Bear Whitetail 6 wheel compound from the owner of it said 1977. It was dirty, cleaned it up, got it back in time, new string and rest on it and it shot just as I remembered those old bows shooting. Pretty fun playing with the older bows.

I think that your bow is very valueble
With the multiplicity of the options for the best compound bows, many may end up deciding in haste. Nonetheless, at all times, you have to decide beyond price.
