guess the weight? been a while back, with the post about estimating hog weight, thought I would see what you all think.

I'm terrible at guessing weights but I'll say 365 lbs.

With that "lack of scale" it is impossible to estimate the hog size....I am getting the stretched out arm appearance from this pic and have no relativity of the size.

He looks big, but is it picture making him look big or is he really that big. A person standing next to him would be helpful, or some other size relative to the hog, a yard stick or something (haha)

Yep, and they always look bigger when they are close in the foreground and the only scale references are distant in the background.

Nope. I don't play the guess the pigs weight game. When we started weighing hogs it turns out we over estimated their weight. Dragging and loading a dead pig makes them feel much heavier than they really are.

Spend $30.00 on a scale, or buy a 1.99 sewing tape and measure the chest girth to get an estimate.

Yeah I went back and looked at his posts and saw that claim, thought at first you were being snarky about the "bottomed the scale out at 450" comment but then realized this pic was that hog...

Would be a much more powerful picture with some reference mark in it...having it on the end of the loader and the tractor in the background does nothing for me...heck, that could be a little 15HP tractor with a load limit of 250 lbs...or it could be a 75HP tractor with a load limit of 2000#

you don't know tractors, look at the tires

Tractor and tires are in the background, not useful for scale.

Colt45, I don't know tractors, never said I did, what I did say was without something to scale this picture it is almost as worthless as someone taking a pic of a hog on the ground with them sitting 5 feet away. The scale is off due to the perspective of the pic. The pic of you standing next to it would have been a much better picture to post due to the relative scale of the hog to a person...

I am not here to discount your hog, I am just pointing out the picture could be misleading. It obviously isn't since you said it weighted 450+, its a big hog. Would be a more powerful pic with the scale (and not talking about the weighing scale) equalized to something we can all see on equal footing...heck even a side pic of the tractor and the hog together to show the pig is about 8 feet in length. You know what I mean here.

I understand the doubts, can't locate other pics, my shot was in the spine right behind the head, he dropped belly down, two of us could not roll him over, we used a (unconventional method) counter weight, some neighbors came over and helped, I reposted to get guess's on weight, I personally don't believe the tape measure deal, if you have to hang a hog to use the tape,or roll, hogs weight will shift, the only true way to use the tape is for the animal to be standing, good trick if you could get it done

Come on now two people couldn't roll the hog over? I've loaded 200 lb hog by myself no issue just climb in truck bed with rope around hogs head and tank him in I'd bet I could do it myself with a 300 lb animal. 2 men could prob roll a cow over.

The tape method may not be exact, but it does put you in the neighborhood on a hogs weight. A lease buddy killed a big hog two years ago. Everyone guess the hog to weigh 320-330. We weighed the hog at 278 on the nose. People typically way overestimate a hog's weight. Just my opinion, I think the bigger the hog the more people tend to over estimate.
