I want to build my wife a turkey gun. Lets talk red dot scopes, bores, loads ect. I can tell you after seeing how the 12 ga hammered a 35 pig at 23ish yards, it reassures the fact we generally go after game way over bored. I want to drop her to a 28 or a 20 ga. Most likely a 20 because her 12 beats her up pretty bad. I want to be able to get her to shoot over and over to build the muscle memory. She won't ever do that shooting in the yard if the 12 keeps beating her up. I am leaning to the 28.

I may go with the 20 to step up the pellet count and give her a little bigger pattern.

Trulock Federal Heavy weight #7 choke and the Federal 3" Heavy Weight #7 will get the job done in a 20 ga.

Using this chart one would have to assume there are at least 431 pellets in 1 1.5 oz load of number 7 pellets. I split the difference twix 6 and 7.5 shot because 7 was not on the chart. With the correct choke, I can't see a turkey walking away from a shot like that. It seems to me it would just flatten a turkey even as far as 40 yards. Not to mention the 1100 FPS with lead.

Great recommendation Booner1! Works well in my 20 ga Beretta.

Enjoy the experience and take home the memories!

20ga Beretta would be a light kicking effective gun for her. Lots of shells work these days. Heavy shot has changed the game these days I have no probblem shooting turkey at 40 yards with remington #6 heavy shot loads and numerous oters work well

Unless you want to load your own Tungsten Super Shot shells, I would use the commercially available Federal Heavyweight loads in 20 gauge as Booner1 recommended. Rumors have it that Nitro ammo will market the Tungsten loads in the future. Lots of info on 20 gauge loads and chokes at Old Gobbler.com.
